    Tell me about military surplus

I was in the market for a new woolen blanket, yet did not want to spend big bucks.

My local army surplus store had nice ones from Hungary, Bulgaria, and Mongolia. The Mongolian ones were the best. Nice and soft, not scratchy. I bought one for $25.

What's the scoop on these? Are surplus military blankets used? (I hope not!). And, can anyone read this label and tell me if it is 100% wool?

I escaped your deck hand's grasp. He better get a bigger hook on that gaff if you want a trophy.
Good try though you put up a good fight. Especially in these wavy conditions. I thought for sure you were going to end up in the drink.

Ahhh, battered and bruised, but free to swim away and be fought again some day...I'm good with that.

OP- I would not worry too much wether the blanket was used or not. More than likely it was un issued and un used. If it was used at some point it was laundered before packing.

From my experience, military surplus can be hit and miss.
I was in the military (USN) and sometimes I'd see stuff like peacoats as military issue - but they weren't you could just tell that they were a knock-off.
Things like wool blankets even could even be 'fake'.

There are also used items in many surplus shops - I sold a bit of my uniforms to one.
    Honestly... ahh I give up

If we see it, doesn't that mean it needs a better paint job?

As Highdelll said, sometimes the gear in military surplus stores is not made to military specs and was never built for any government agency. Cheap knock offs designed to look like military gear but not function like military gear. Having been issued a lot of used, and clean, military gear over the years I can say that I would look for tears and stains in a surplus blanket instead of worrying about its lineage.
