I love Shark week, but the Megalodon show was as fake as it gets. I think Discovery is starting to jump the shark (pun intended).

I didn't see it but when I saw that they were showing it I was thinking they have in fact "jumped the shark." Evidently it was one of those shows that try to sound and look like a real documentary but are obviously fake.

I'll be looking for some of the real shows though. There should be some good ones coming up.

I saw that title on the TV guide and thought it was SyFy before I looked at the channel and realized it was Discovery.

I haven't watched Discovery in a long time, but I thought this commercial was great.

Yep, I've been watching it. The Great Whites at the Cape were really neat to watch! I've caught Shortfin Mako sharks which look like skinny, streamlined Great Whites. They are fast enough to catch a tuna and they leap into the air like a Marlin while you've got them hooked up. It's spectacular!

The only good part was when they made "chum cannons" to chum for Megalodon, it was funny. The CGI department for the "documentary" really blew it too.. haha.. There have been a couple good shows so far. It only gets better as the week goes on!!

Funny thing is that I actually looked in the schedule to see when it was on again because my curiosity was piqued. Its on this Saturday so I'll check it out. Sometimes things can be so bad its good, i.e. Sharknado. Frankly I'm surprised its not on this week!

I didn't see the Megalodon show but come on give em a break. Megalodon is extinct so they have to recreate what it would have been. But then again I didn't see it. All the other show's,are real and real impressive IMO.

The theme of the show was that Megalodon lives today, lol. They present "evidence" to back up their claims. But the real docs are outstanding though, love 'em.

Watching "Spawn of Jaws" right now... They're trying to catch a shark that's bigger than the boat they're on!

Dead Shark Found On NY Subway Train

NEW YORK August 7, 2013 (AP)

New York City's transit authority says a conductor found a small dead shark aboard a subway train in Queens on Wednesday.

The conductor asked passengers to leave the car and closed it off. The train continued to the end of the line, and then a supervisor placed the shark in a garbage bag and put it in the trash.

Photos on the blog Gothamist depict the shark on the subway. It appears to be about 4 feet long, has a cigarette in its mouth with a fare card and Red Bull can nearby.

Transit officials say they were aware of the photos but are making no effort to find the person who posted them. The transit authority says it has "better things to do."

Sound's like the card shark that has gave security the slip in Atalantic City and last month in Vegas. He obviously was on the run and met his fate in the subway of N.Y.

Did anyone watch last nights's episode on serial killer sharks. There are some scientists that have evidence that points towards some sharks particularly Great Whites having serial killer behavior just like human serial killers. One beach in California had an attack in 08' & 2010' & 2012' and they think it was the same Great White returning every other year to attack humans.

Discovery is sensationalizing, more likely the sharks are returning to an area where past experience has shown the hunting to be easy and the prey plentiful.

Hey I agree learned behavior and easy pickings will bring them back for more. It's pretty interesting what is being theorized about reoccurring events by the same shark. Although that's where they
haven't proved is, that it is the same shark. The
beach with the 3 attacks 2 years apart is called
"Surf Beach" in Santa Barbara. And as stated this
year is an off year so frolicking in the surf you
should be fine. Here is a link to the Serial Killer

    "Shark Week"

I grew up swimming in the tidal creeks and around the barrier islands near Charleston, SC. We would only be in the water when the dolphins were near. When they left, that usually meant the big sharks were near. That was time to climb back in the boat or swim to shore.

I've spent many day's in the waters off Southern California and Mexico. It's eerie feeling hanging on to a surfboard or boogie board waiting 10-15 minutes in between wave sets. Especially knowing those waters have Great Whites. A surfer was attacked and killed a couple years ago off,Solana Beach in North San Diego by a Great White. Just a few miles up from the beaches I frequented. And just a mile from where my brother surfes every day. Scary stuff!

At least you ain't in the Red Triangle. My local beach is smack dab in the middle of the coast, which makes up one side of the triangle, and there are shark sightings every so often. Usually sharks won't actually attack anyone, but a couple months ago a Great White bit a chunk out of a kayak that was fishing close to shore. Probably scared the $hit out of the kayaker, but he wasn't hurt. The best thing to do is to look at the numbers, realize you're likely not in danger, and go out and have fun! And if you do get attacked by a shark, make sure and buy yourself a few lotto tickets on your way home from the hospital.

Anyone here ever seen a Great White shark in person? I have at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, CA but never in the wild. I have seen many other types in the wild though including Shortfin Makos, Threshers, Spiny Dogfish, Smooth hounds, Swell sharks, Horned sharks, Angel sharks (more like a ray with teeth), Seven Gilled sharks, Basking sharks (MASSIVE size!), Blue sharks, and Hammerheads. Hammerheads are about the most majestic looking in the water that I have seen.

I want to see a great white while scuba diving. So far I have only seen a bunch of leopard shafts and an 8 to 10 foot tiger. The tiger shark almost made me piss my dry suit.

I have seen sharks while scuba diving in Portugal and Guam. I am not sure what kind they were because I got the hell out of there as fast as I could. I remember being so terrified of making eye contact so I swam away with my eyes closed... Sharks are the #1 animal I fear. I haven't been in the ocean for years. I agree with SpinDirt,.. I like my water salt free too.

I don't like the trend of slipping these fake documentaries into Shark week. But when you consider that about 90% of Discovery's programming is now low budget reality shows I guess it follows that they'll do the same to Shark Week. Like Meat said, real shark stuff is interesting enough as it is.

Shark Week is the real deal this year. Check it out now on Discovery.

Last years shows were a mix of real and embellished BS. But not this year they went back to all the real expeditions and storys. Right now they're going threw some gruesome real shark attacks.
