    Saturday Night Live / Opinions & Skits……

What are your opinions on recent and older Saturday Night Live cast members and skits. I personally have a hard time laughing at the current members and skits. Post up some of your favorite skits, new or old and opinions. One of my favorite cast members of old was Father Sarducci. I couldn't find one of his old SNL skits but his stand-up routine is hilarious. Vita est Lavorum - YouTube

I have been a fan of the show for many years!

My secret dream job was to be a writer on that show... instead I chose nursing.

The older show (John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd Gilda Radner Bill Murray etc) was edgier for the time, the cast created memorable original characters. Even the hosts were outstanding : Steve Martin, Richard Pryor etc

Love the catchphrases "Never mind" "bass-o- Matic" "We are from France" etc etc... too many
The celebrity Jeopardy skits with Wil Ferrell as Alex Trebek and Daryl Hammond as Sean Connery are also classic.

The newer cast is good at impersonations of pop icons. I still find wit and humor but the past skits and even musical guests seemed stronger

My brush with SNL celebrity was when Lorne Michaels struck up a conversion with me while we were crossing Queen Street (in Toronto).

Old cast was timeless, new cast (as in anything for the last 30 years) cant hold my attention until a commercial break, let alone through one.

    Saturday Night Live / Opinions & Skits……

My favorite SNL cast was early to mid 90's. Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin Nealon, Dennis Miller, Chris Farley, Dana Carvey, Tim Meadows, Chris Rock, Julia Sweeney.
Nat X, Pat, Matt Foley, Massive Head Wound Harry, Church Lady. Great characters.
The early Will Farrel stuff is absolute gold.

Yes that time was the best era for snl for sure. I haven't watched a whole episode for several years.Only bits and pieces recently and I just can't get into it.

When I was a kid, I thought some of those fake commercials were real. I wanted the AFX meat wagon. Anyone remember that one?

Yep, this is what I think of when I think about SNL. I graduated from high school in '93, and it was must-see TV back then. Most weekends, my group's Saturday night activities revolved around being somewhere where we could watch SNL (of course, there were no DVRs ...), and everyone would be talking about various episodes the next Monday at school.

I also really liked the Spartans cheerleader skits with Ferrell and Cheri Oteri.

Haven't watched in at least a year because it just doesn't seem funny any more.

The Jeopardy skits came to mind as well. I also think Alec Baldwin and Canteen boy is pretty good.

First- I saw the Blues Brothers with the SNL band live in the late '70's. Best concert I've been to ever.

A mix of SNL skits- here are a few:

    Belushi Samurai ?
    Coneheads
    The Land Shark
    Rosanne Rosannadanna
    Father Guido Sarducci
Garrett Morris as Chico Escuela (Baseball been berry berry good to me) and Idi Amin
    Gumby Dammit
    Church Lady
    Tarzan, Frankestein and Tonto
    Stuart Smalley
    Wayne's World
Tina Fey / Amy Poehler Weekend Update

Yes, generally the older ones were better. The Will Ferrell/Adam Sandler years were pretty good too.

The recent JT-hosted episode was so bad I didn't make it through the cold open.

Am I imagining things or did they have a fake commercial for Reebok The Pump jeans, where you pumped up a bulge in your crotch?

One of my favorite characters when I was a kid was Irwin Mainway. Seems childish now, but I cracked up as a kid.
