It's live on Discovery Channel too. Just passed though 90,000'! Frickin' crazy, but I'm glued to the TV and delaying my ride to see this live.

I turned it on when he was moving to the edge of the seat. Holy Crap! Pretty good drama as the speedometer kept rising before you saw him gain control. That was a free fall.

Yep... This confirms it... I'm a wuss.

That was an amazing jump though. Had to be crazy for him when his visor fogged. That would creep me the hell out

Mach 1 is 761 MPH, Felix went 729 MPH.

I'm glad Joe K kept his longest free fall record, doing that **** in the 1961 was way more gnarlier, he deserves to hang on to a record, IMO.

im gonna guess that is the reason why he popped his chute when he did and didnt get the freefall record.

umm at sea level @ 'average' temp. maybe

Mach is not a constant, and where Felix was, I think it was around 690mph to break the sound barrier.

All I know is that it was a trip, kind of crazy hearing about the stories of when the dude jumped in the 60's with a lot less technology that dude was a freak!

I knew it changed, but I though (incorrectly) that the speed of sound increased as altitude increased. It turns out the speed of sound varies significantly because of air temp and not just density which I didn't know.

I don't get it. It's one of the most ridiculous and amazing things that man-kind has ever accomplished, yet at best it's getting the back page of most newspapers.

Awesome; I've watched the footage like 20 times now. Seems surreal.

Thanks for the video, Highdell -- I hadn't seen that one in a while. Travis Pastrana is the most radical SOB since Johnny Utah -- the jump out of the plane w/o a chute gets me every time.

Somehow, the footage from Joe's jump seems even better, more surreal, than Felix's, at least in some ways. Hard to believe that happened so many years ago, and it has taken 50+ years for someone to better it.

And does anyone else think that those wingsuits look like possibly the funnest thing a person could do? Just incredible ...
