The Paranormal Thread
Anyone ever see or experience something they couldn't explain out on the trails, or anywhere for that matter?
Yes, I'm serious. And no, I have not. The closest I have come was being pursued/shadowed by some creature on a night ride once, most likely a mountain lion.
Anyways, it seems a mountain biker would be as likely as anyone to have had some unexplained sighting - being that we're frequently out in the woods, riding at night, and generally off the beaten path.

I haven't seen anything but this movie
Fire in the Sky - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
is based on an event that supposedly happened near here.

I came up on a fresh deer leg once, on a solo night ride. No joke, the leg of a small deer, plenty of blood, about 7 miles from the trail head. I haven't ridden alone at night since.
My Italian buddy told me an intensely creepy story of camping in Italy outside of really old abandoned catholic church that was shut down for some weird reason. He swears they were "visited" that night by some sort of other worldly beings. The genuine fear in his voice had me convinced. Same guy watched "paranormal activity" without getting phased, but still doesn't like being around churches at night.

Hey Andy, we should turn this into a "unexplained anytime" thread, as it currently is very similar to the "tails of terror from the trail" thread. Just an idea
I want to read stories of UFO's Chupicobras Ghosts that people have seen in general.

Not exactly on the trail or any animal but...
This January, a friend and I rode 32kms (18 miles) to a place called Neptunia and came back to our city (Monevideo, Uruguay) completing around 80kms (50 miles). When we got back we had a seat at the "Rambla" an avenue along the coast, highly populated area in front of the sea. Anyway we had a drink and started talking about stuff, just relaxing from the long ride. It was a beautiful summer night and i oftenly looked at the stars while talking. All of a sudden, as my friend is talking, one of 2 bright stars that i had been looking at, dissapears. My friend wasnīt looking so i go "WTF?? did you see that? the star just went off" He looks and i point out where the "star" was (not far from the other bright star). When we both look, the other "star" starts to fade slowly, moves a bit and... dissapears too! I was pretty shocked as there were no clouds. The stars werenīt high flying planes or sattelites since i had been looking at them for some time. We came up to the assumption that it might have been space junk that entered in contact with the atmosphere and faded, but it was shining for too long without moving. I still canīt explain it...

+1 on that. In doing research on my house who ever used to live here practiced occult rituals.
I found weird Satanic symbols in my basement under the paint in which I scraped off and painted those suckers over. Shlt goes bump in the night over here, it used to scare the crap out of me but i'm used to it as for when others come over they don't seem to be amused at poltergeist stuff lol.
Can I be honest with you? I am bad news. I'm not your friend, I'm not gonna help you, I'm gonna break you. Any questions?

I'll be brave and post, everyone probably thinks
I am lost by now anyway so it isn't gonna hurt anything.
I lived in South Lake Tahoe for roughly 3yrs back in
the early 80's. The house that I was living in was butted up against
a golf course right in front of Heavenly Valley. Way back in the 1800's
a railroad section of track went through the backyard of this house.
At some point at this time apparently there was a derailment of a locomotive
carrying passengers, and from records a few were killed. I lived with a very
active spook for the entire time I lived there. I'll stop here as I had a plethora
of things happen, and some sightings, to tell you about, but gotta get up
early so I will finish this tomorrow.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE cryptozoology. i've got books and figurines. i'm such a dork. My favorite beasts are the mothman and flatwoods monster.
i used to go looking for stuff like that, and i've never seen bigfoot or anything like that. However, i remember as a younger kid, on the porch with my friend, and i looked out in the woods and could have sworn i saw a fox. while i was squinting my eyes, trying to decide if it was a fox or a reddish shrub, out of the corner of my eye i saw a black dog, with a cartoonish huge head. it was opening and closing its jaw. This was all a quick flash in my view, then it was gone. My friend said "i dont see a fox, but i thought i just saw a black dog chewing something in the woods". It was so freaky...and it was proportioned unlike any dog that could exist...like a big long crocodile head.
from then on, i was haunted by the black dog. years later i ended up reading about some sort of ghost black dog legend...and i believe the "jaw snapping" was a feature of this dog. i'll have to go back and research it.

my coworker told me that he and his work partner were out doing some sort of environmental work in the deep woods of northern NY, (catskills i think?) but there was a swatch of woods cut out, like powerline trails. They crested the hill, looked down, and saw a big hairy creature, walking on two legs like a human across the powerline path. He said the only other explaination would be a bear, but like i said, it was walking on two legs like a person. Both guys saw it.

Not to sound crazy but maybe someone could help me with this. In the summer of 09 on the way to my next duty station in NC my ex-wife now, her son, and me where driving all night. As we pasted Stony Creek, VA we grew very tired and needed to rest. It's was around 3:30 in the morning. We took an exit off I95 and found this random park & ride stop to rest for a little. There was a couple of cars parked but no one was there. As we got out of the cars to stretch and her son slept about ten minutes later her and I both got this really really eerie feeling.
As I asked her if she felt the change "in the air" and things just kept getting more eerie. As her and I where standing next to the U-haul and her son in the other car less then 10 feet away we noticed some movement in the woods next to us. This is where shlt just go weird. I took out my surefire flashlight which are very bright if you have ever seen one and shined it into the woods and nothing. Out of the corner of my eye this giant black mass was right next to the car with her son.
I shine over at it and this "thing" which had to be around 6'5+ was standing next to car scratching at the window where he son was near. Now this whatever the fvck it was as soon as my lights hit it, it literally like shot into the woods. My ex-wife was histarically crying at this point, i'm trying to find this thing to confront it and her son is crying as well. I shine my light into the ground level of the trees nothing. Shine it into the middle upper part of the trees and there it is. Sitting on a branch. Now this thing had no facial features I can explain nor comprehend and just had these red glowing eyes looking back at her and I. This wasn't an animal that I confused myself into thinking it was something else. It sat there for maybe 20-30 seconds then just shot off into the night sky. I myself basically **** my pants, she was having a nervous breakdown and her son frightened beyond belief where all just standing there. We called the police, they came and could not find anything. Till this day I don't know what we saw nor can pin point any folklore as to what that could have been. Any thoughts?

Hi Folks, where were we, ok so it was a 2 story house, top floor hallway was windowed
all the way to the bedrooms, one at each end of the hallway. For some reason, I didn't like
the upstairs, couldn't put my finger on it, but I felt uncomfortable every time I went upstairs.
For the first month in the home I slept on the couch in the downstairs living-room. I shared
the house with 3 other people, and though no one would admit it, we were all feeling uneasy.
There was a front door alarm that no one ever set when we all left, so one night we all decide
to go to Stateline Road, as right across the street you are in Nevada and can gamble at the
casinos. EVERY light in the house when we left was off, T.V was off as well as the stereo.
And no one, and I repeat no one , had set the alarm on the front door. When we returned to the house
3 hrs later, we could all see as we pulled up that almost every light in the house was on, including
upstairs. We all thought we where being robbed, so we all came bursting threw the door only
to have the door alarm go off. And sure as hell, t.v. was on as well as the stereo playing an album
that no one remembered putting on the record player. We called the Police once we settled down, and
they came and asked if anything was missing. There wasn't anything gone, and we didn't know
anyone in town that well yet for it to be a joke. The antics only got crazier from there, but alot of the
time, you might as well quit locking doors, or shutting lights off, as it would all be undone when
anyone got home from work. And please try to believe me when I say, I don't talk about this ever,
until now, the only one I have ever told is the wife. I will do this in a couple of installments, as alot
of stuff happened.

I know all about the Mothman but still to this day don't well, can't believe whatever the three of us saw. Why would it go for the car with the child? What did it want? How did it move so fast? It's said that the Mothman is supposed to show/tell you some sort of impending bad situation or something like I said in the joke above but I still don't understand maybe you could help. Also this is the truth and on my father grave the accounts I typed above happened.

^ The impending doom is folklore, so it may or may not have meaning, but the idea that enough poeople have seen this thing, and describe it the same way, means that it exists....and it may just be a rare bird, who knows.
i have a book of all kinds of mothman accounts. most people say it has a curiosity about cars. It likes to peek in cars, and chase cars, etc, but it hasnt been known to hurt people...just follow and watch them.
they also all say it doesnt flap its wings, it just sort of jumps up an soars away very quickly. it can lift up without flapping, which is pretty much impossible for normal birds.

I always read and thought it means some bad omen or something if you came into contact with it. Yeah it didn't fly it literately was in the tree line, then at the car, then back into the trees then into the sky faster then any bird or human or animal could move. I thought it could have been the Mothman but never brought it up for the fact of sounding crazy. It is hard to believe in something until it happens to you.

yes, there are ancient native american (and other cultures) folktales of giant birds "thunderbirds" bringing bad omens. Either way, it obviously exists, and the "skeptics" saying its a crane is just ridiculous. I mean, did YOU see a friggin CRANE?!

Gotta watch out for those Catholics with Irish Parish's too.
