Came across this neat vid/commercial on another forum. I didn't know John Cardiel had a spinal cord injury and was told he wouldn't walk again.

Rained out the group ride today, it's rained every single day for about a week now. I really worry that we're in the same pattern we were last year; same kind of winter, same soggy spring, hoping like hell it's not another record drought and more fires this year.

well, I ran into an issue. The frame arrived out of spec, the rear hub spacing was 137mm instead of 142. Not cool. I need to take it to a local shop that's qualified and has the right jig/table and have the rear end cold-set back to 142. I haven't had time to take it there yet.

    But thanks for asking...

    In the meantime, this happened.

My Jamis Dragon One 853 steel frame got converted to Monstercross mode. Highlights include

TRP Spyre mechanical brakes w/ Tektro ergo levers
    On One Midge handlebars
    Carver carbon fork
Schwalbe Rocket Ron front tire, haven't decided on a rear yet. Conti X-king is a placeholder for now.
    Alligator ilink brake cable housing
    42:20 gearing for now
older Stans flow rims on surly hubs
    White Industries trials freewheel
    SLX cranks

Should be a pretty fun ride. (my first dropbar 29er) I may end up converting this one to a 1x geared drivetrain using a bar end shifter. I feel like I may want to do long adventures on this one down the road when my hand stops sucking at life. we'll see.

So you only have one side of the bar? Because a set in bar terms is one.

Did you order something from Paul?

Is this Onespeed approved? I can't remeber how I had my last SS set up, but the cog I have now (BMX) won't fit in the chain (9 or 10spd), so I'm hoping this will work.

Is this Onespeed approved? I can't remeber how I had my last SS set up, but the cog I have now (BMX) won't fit in the chain (9 or 10spd), so I'm hoping this will work.

So I got the Surly chainring as you suggested and the chain, started putting them on and noticed how roughly and noisily my freewheel spun (a ACS Crossfire) so, decided to order a new one plus I needed the tool to remove the old one. Got them, got the old one off and then, without the buzzing of the Crossfire to cover it up, I noticed how bad my hub sounded and how rough it spun. So, it is taken apart and currently soaking in Nashbar degreaser.

Yeah, yeah, I know, should have gotten a White Industries but just couldn't justify the cost. It's a 26er with v-brakes and I can't see putting a lot of money into it. I could put disk on it but then I'd have to get new wheels as well.

Your cog is probably a 1/8" rather than a 3/32".

Hope that all comes together. I'm not wanting to spend a bunch right now either, and I'm pretty sure you're right about the cog being 1/8th and not fitting into my chains, which, IIRC, are 9spd and 10spd for my geared bikes. I thought I bought a SRAM 9spd (PC-971?) for my old SS based on some searching here at mtbr, but I might have snapped that one, so I'll get the cog and go from there. I'd rather spend the money on a cog than shipping!

Phukked up situation here at Redstone Arsenal. The Sparkman Center building was due for an Active Shooter emergency drill tomorrow. The base was warned about this drill, and that it would be happening.

So right now, there is a real active shooter situation happening there. It's about a mile from where my building is.

Hmmm crazy coincidence or an inside person as the active shooter. Scary stuff, hope they get him before he causes harm.

Devious timing, and I'm sure on purpose. If it's real, he probably caught alot of people off guard, thinking "hey, this is that drill they were talking about" and not taking it as seriously as they might normally had. Still no confirmation that anything actually happened, but the whole base is now on lock-down. Someone thinks something really did.

Looks like it turned out to be a fake...apparently two separate people called 911 with fake "shooter spotting" calls - they must have been working together. Oh well, I got half a day off and went riding!

    whaaaat?

I was wondering Net, it was on the front page of CNN when they didn't know what was happening. Then I checked later to find out what had happened and no mention at all.

A seldom used trail on the other side of Monte Sano. It's super chunky and overgrown. No one ever uses it. It was an adventure ride.

I like the sound of the "super chunky" part, but not the other. I miss the olden days when we got to see moving pictures of your rides!

I rode a little, sorta took my mind off the canal of root...
