Saw the Hobbit2. (regular screening) It dragged a bit at the beginning but overall I thought it was better than Hobbit1. More action, characters more developed. Some good action scenes. I liked the dragon (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the elves. There were some amusing parts too.

    Being John Malkovich.

How in Heaven or on Earth did this film get nominated for three Academy Awards? This was something definitely written in an altered-state, absolutely ridiculous and even more that someone is expected to watch it to the finish.

Spike Jonze - did a internet search about where he's at now, has an upcoming flick about a person who falls into a love-state with someone's computer server somewhere - Title: HER.
Oh, and for whatever reason Jonze is repeatedly-noted being a friend of Messr. KanyeWest - who cares??? Oh wait - there's drama to be sold by doing that.

An old issue - Nov. '87 - of a once popular, now non existent, BMX Racing monthly chose to run this for a center-spread ---> Name the last movie you watched-untitled.jpg

2/3 down near the center of the spread, on the L - if I remember correct some friends who were step-children from the California-Scene in the mid-eighties recall Jonze protesting repeatedly about having to sign this with all the other staff for the Magazine.

What a twit - I'm so glad that I am not a celebrity, because that's an old Chevrolet Sedan/Stationwagon, and people are not cars. Except George Carlin - he played the VW Bus in the movie 'Cars' so he's the exception to my mantra here.
    I like Sand - I don't like Witches

2 widely different opinions of American Hustle up there... gonna have to see for myself.

Went to the second Hunger Games, was just really a remake of the first with a few tweaks. They could have added a scene to the end of the first one and wound up at the same place they are now: set up for a couple of sequels...

Welcomed in the new year watching Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief with my 10 year old daughter. It was the first time she had stayed up past midnight to see in a new year.

Probably should, I just found it drawn out, slow and predictable. Also no explosions, chase scenes, or sex, butevery one has different tastes

While driving cross county for the holidays I watched Battleship. I was expecting it to be terrible and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't.

Yes it's a stupid film but if one disengages one's brain it is entertaining enough.

    Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.

A few issues, but all in all a worthy middle to the trilogy.

You really don't want to get me started on the issues, the stretched out plot is a consequence of new characters and plot lines that are outside the writings and notes of Tolkien. The Hobbit is what, a couple hundred pages and the LOTR is a 1000 and both get 3 movies? They left out characters for LOTR and added bits for the Hobbit? Seriously, I have to stop now.

Aside from Amy Adams looking truly lustworthy, I was disappointed in American Hustle . . . it was okay, and certainly not bad, but I think I had too high of expectations. I think it was the story line that was just meh, as the acting was really good.

The last movie I watched, and yes, I know I'm a little late, was The Godfather (for the first time). I enjoyed it.

When we were at this movie, I had 4 teenagers sitting next to me talking non-stop the entire time. I decided not to ask them to stfup because if they did then I would have to listen to the idiotic dialogue of the movie.

In my never-ending search for the worst movies evar, I found two gems:
Permanent Midnight (1998) - IMDb - I kept looking at how much time was left, thinking "N minutes until he ODs"
Fall: The Price of Silence (2001) - IMDb - directed by Daniel Baldwin, it gives just what you expect

I also watched Snatch. (2000) - IMDb for about the 4th time, and I'm finally at the point I can understand most of the dialogue

Finally caught the original "Oldboy" on Xfinity for free. I was wondering WTF was the big deal about the movie until the reason for 15 years of solitude was revealed. Pretty twisted.

FWIW there's two other movies on there that they're billing as the "Oldboy trilogy" Hopefully I'll get to see the other two before they stop showing.

    You're Next and Straw Dogs.

Both were along the same lines of horror and suspense. I give both were about 7/10. Some blood, some gore, both fun to watch.

oohhh haha ok that makes way more sense. I was thinking it was like Love Boat but on a ranch, or like a movie about a bunch of hippie swingers on a commune somewhere.

But seriously, yeah that sounds awesome.

    The Gate - 1987

Classic horror flick I felt like watching again from the late 80's.

Since my wife have more free time right now, she just did a marathon on season 1 hanabal, and season 2 House of cards. I caught a bit here and there and I was hooked. They were both great.

House of Cards was freakin' awesome. Soon as season 2 came out on Netflicks, blew through it in like 3 nights. And I almost never watch TV. We dont even have TV cable.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was completely sold out! (Opening weekend and limited theatres... however in hindsight should have purchased in advance online)

Now I want to see it even more

Name the last movie you watched

Mr Peabody and Sherman with about 100 2nd graders. It's an okay kids film but otherwise stupid.

Then The Worlds End. Okay but bit as good as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Saw that recently, and I would say a great movie about alcoholism. Few movies have been able to portray this in a realistic way, but this one does. It should be a 'must watch'...

Le Week-end yesterday. Hardly a great action/adventure, but really good! Jim Broadbent is amazing, Lindsay Duncan awesome, and Jeff Goldblum creepily effective. Great movie for those of us 'of a certain age'!
