Should've tried to get something else in the picture for reference of scale, but this one was about 4-5" wide & very bright!! On the flanks of Humphrey's Peak near Flagstaff, AZ.

Look like the same kind as plummet's. The big one is probably 2 feet across. I had never seen anything like it before.

Edit: After a few minutes of research it appears to be a Berkeley's Polypore. Edible when young. Often grows at the base of hardwoods. It's parasitic to them and causes them to rot out. My first photo seem to be a good example of that.

Some of those mushrooms are huge!

I didn't have any new shots of mushrooms on my PC as I've stopped taking pictures of them but now after seeing these pics, I feel like getting back into it!
Anyways here are a couple old ones of mine.

Groovy. I found just enough for a meal for us, as well as some asparagus. I don't soak mine in salt water anymore, I just check them for grubs and wash them off and eat them. They are good, once in a while, but I wouldn't pay $14 a lb for them!

We had an abnormally wet summer last year, so the fungi were out on every ride. Here is just a few of the dozens of different ones that I saw, all on the same trail.

    cyclicious--You've got a Dryad Saddle there --http://www.mushroomexpert.com/polyporus_squamosus.html

supradude, that looks like a hen of the woods, but it's the wrong time of year, so it's probably a very young Berkeley polypore.
    Bondarzewia berkeleyi (MushroomExpert.Com)

Like all mushies, macro characteristics often vary largely, though some salient details persist.

Keep em coming. This is good work distraction, and it's been dry in PA, so I don't get distracted on the rides...

Man, I can't quite tell by the pics, but 2/3 looks like the white variety of Maitake (hen of the woods), tho it's early in the season for those...
    Grifola frondosa

The yellow guys below that are Chicken of the Woods. Though horribly decomposed, sorry to say.
Laetiporus sulphureus: The Chicken of the Woods (MushroomExpert.Com)

The bottoms look like Chanterelles. I've seen a ton of those this season. IF IF IF CORRECTLY CORRECTLY CORRECTLY identified, they taste great. Do not eat them unless you have a mycologist on hand.

Hey Collins, just curious, what percentage of mushrooms are going to do you in if you eat them? Are they generally quite toxic, or are they like most regular plants -- a few are toxic, a few taste good, and most of them are not toxic but aren't really edible. I don't like mushrooms to eat, just curious.

I saw some mushrooms for sale at a farmer's market at an outrageous price that looked exactly like hundreds I have seen growing wild. In fact as I recall they were "Chanterelle", but didn't look anything like the ones in your link. They were orange.

Anyway, I am 55 years old and have seen more mushrooms in the past several weeks than the rest of my life combined. We had about a foot of rain this week, and that is less than we have been getting (N Georgia). I have taken an interest in the various varieties I never noticed before and have been photographing them on my rides, what little they open the trails.

Above, a perfect Amanita muscaria from 251.
    Amanita muscaria var. flavivolvata (MushroomExpert.Com)
    Though, who knows what variety...

Just above, I'm not sure about many of these... esp the top whitish one
Red one below, maybe a Bicolor, though I'd have to see under the cap... and check bruising:
    Boletus bicolor (MushroomExpert.Com)

Then, the "cap" of a jewelled puffball:
    Lycoperdon perlatum (MushroomExpert.Com)

Then, maybe caesar's amanita... likely not. Have to see the base.

As far as mushroom toxicity, I'm unsure of an overall percentage of toxic species and varieties. But like you said: some are deadly toxic. With enough experience and a proper guidebook to identify the distinguishing characteristics, they're pretty easy to identify. Same goes for the tasty ones. There are 10-15 delicious mushrooms that are very easy to identify, such as the Chanterelle, as long as you know what to look for. BTW, those are usually "orange-yellowish" but can be darker or even beige-white, depending on several factors.

Cool Pete. That kind gets huge and lasts a long time. Take another picture in a few weeks and post it.

This one is from Ft. Yargo in North Georgia from last year, at its prime. It didn't grow back this year and I haven't seen any others of this type. Probably too wet Mushrooms....Post your pics...-mushroom.jpg

Awesome pickled king ceps. Yum. ...Big mouth quart masons are quite useful, eh?

Baker -- you've got some badly poisonous Amanita muscaria or pantherina (tho others may say otherwise...), up top. At the bottom, you've got some kind of Clavarioid species.

Check out the Audubon mushroom guide for your area...

Not a mushroom, but I think it's cool...

Found in Harbins Park in Gwinnett County GA. These are common in the costal areas but fairly rare up here.

Even with all the rain this summer, I haven't found too many shrooms yet. I finally scored on the ride today.

I started off seeing some very small mushrooms and puffballs. The puffball was only 5/8" in diameter.

Then along side the road, I found this freakish thing. It almost looks like it was burned.

And along side it was this.

In fact, a whole bunch of them.

And then I found a bracket, and this clown wouldn't move out of the photo. I would have moved him, but I value my fingers.

That little horny toad is harmless, although he might pee on your hand if you pick him up and squeeze too hard. FYI

Screaming bunny-- you've got some delicious Chicken of the Woods there. Maybe the easiest to identify.
Yes, get the book, get a teacher... But you can saute those with some garlic = yum.

And, ha: Slowpokepete: I can't give an accurate ID, and would never suggest eating them, but those on the bottom look like a gymnopilus species, sunbleached a bit. Read up on them...

Sagebrush and mushrooms, not your normal combination.

    Large puffball.

Really big mushroom, or really small tires. Growing in sand.

Is this a mushroom? I wouldn't have thought so, but I've seen others posted here and they look cool, so here you go. This was at Tokul West near Fall City, Washington.

It's not a mushroom, but it is a fungus, I know them as tree brackets, although there is probably a more technical name.

Here's a sort of raggedy looking mushroom along the trail this evening.

    Mushrooms....Post your pics...-mushroom-10-7-2013.jpg

And here's some logger mushroom humor. I should have put my bike next to the stump/boulder. That boulder must weigh a couple tons. Looks like a giant mushroom.
