I stopped to take a photo of these tiny puffballs growing in the trail and I saw this mushroom growing on a log.

dex- Really like the B&W #5 . It's an aminita which are usually very photogenic. Possibly Aminita pantherina? Impossible to say w/o more info and possibly spore prints. #6 looks like a more matured aminita as well. FWII.

We got screwed here in CO this year, not much popped up, at least in the FR area. Here's a few pics from past years though.

Lot of shrooms on my last ride including a nice dinner of hen-o-da-woods (the portion JQ holds is only 1/3 of what was in the first pic!), YUMMMMM!

    Some really great pics folks!

Here's one I took last year in Bin Forest (Aberdeenshire) with my old Fuji p&s, before I got my DSLR

Not sure what type it is. Maybe a Hypholoma Fasciculare but I could be wrong. I'm only really familiar with the magic type

That's an Indian Pipe for sure, they are however, not technically a mushroom.

Its a very common misidentification. They actually have a symbiotic relationship with real mushrooms and the host tree. I believe they were frequently used medicinally as a sedative. They do, however, contain toxins (like 99.9% of all mushrooms).

Interesting. I'm not real familiar with species found west of the Mississippi, but I'd ponder a guess that is a "lobster". Lobster fungus is very odd in the fact that any mushroom can become a "lobster". Apparently, there is a fungi that lives off of a host mushroom and "infects" the host, causing it to turn from its natural color to a reddish-orange specimen. Some mycophagists claim that all lobsters are edible, even if the host is inedible, or even poisonous. Some disagree. Some, like me, say I'd never put anything into my mouth unless I was 100% sure of edibility, therefore, the only lobsters I eat have claws.

The season is just starting with the after the first heavy 7 inches of rain. Here's a pic of what I think is an oyster mushroom out in Fairfax, CA.

The pics here are just amazing, I'm tripping hard over the stuff thats posted! Keep 'em coming!

    Mushroom Loaf

Tunica, LA, August 2008, shortly after heavy rainfall. It disintegrated the next weekend into what looks like a black charred mess, but two just like it sprouted up one morning shortly after. Some people think fungi are from outer space.

Glad there's a thread for this. Saw these in Wompatuck state park in southeastern Mass a couple of months ago. I googled a bit to no avail - no idea what they are, but pretty cool looking.
