This picture was taken during a solar eclipse, with my iPad. Some how the eclipse, I think bounces off a layer in the lense and appears to the right of the sun. I took a couple hundred of these pictures and they all did the same thing.

Not a great picture, but I always liked it. I was taken during a fire on the ranch I grew up on.

True from just the picture but there is an attached story to this doglet that really is "mind blowing".

This picture was taken while sitting front and center at a Genesis concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I was about 3 feet away from his face when I took it, with a flash. I was affraid he was going to be pissed of. We weren't supposed to be taking pictures, but I managed to take a few hundred pictures that night.

I may have already posted this pic somewhere around MTBR but it's worth another look.

I'm fascinated by large machinery. I spotted this in Wyoming along I-80 yesterday. In the second pic, you can see what appears to be a CAT D9 right next to the bucket.

10 minutes of Googling revealed it is Bucyrus Erie 1570W. It's humongous, but apparently, it isn't that big compared to larger models.
The biggest dragline ever made (Big Muskie) had almost triple the bucket capacity of this one.

floydlippencott is correct. It's for strip mining. Here's a youtube clip of it in action. This guy says the bulldozer next to it is a D11.

Our trails are built on old mine sites that were abandoned a long time ago. Back in the day when the mining companies were done with a site, they turned the property back over to the state, leaving all the pits and spoils. I don't think this has been allowed since the 70's. We certainly aren't breathing anything toxic, they are just taking minerals out of the soil.
