I've skated a bit of sandstone, but it's pretty rare to find some where you are riding on one layer.

    Fellow skateboarder! Wooo WOOOOO!!!!!!!

That pic was taken in early november, on my 39th birthday, I always skate at least a bit (hopefully a lot) on my B-day, and the day before my B-day we left on a canoe trip on Lake Powell, so I brought my skateboard as I wasn't about to break a 20+ year streak of always skating on my B-day. 14 miles of paddling to get to that camp site!

I've always been a bit obsessed with high ollies, I ollied over a full sized household garbage can for the first time in 1989, and the last time I did it was in 2004, but I'm hoping to ollie a garbage can one last time on my 40th B-day next november, which is going to be tough, but I'm cautiously optimistic I will have to specifically "practice" high ollies this summer to make this happen, I might try some meth for the first time too, I'll need all the help I can get

The ollie below wasn't rolling, the top of the island was pretty rough, but I like the shot as a whole, not quite as random as all the storm trooper photos floating around the web, but still a bit of a head scratcher.

And a day trip into a slot canyon that same day, glassy water and my skateboard ready for action,

Oh yea, I had a bunch of Natas decks over the years!

The first board I ever ollied over a trash can on was the "nightmare kitty" freddy kruger variation of the classic natas graphic, made by Santa Cruz of course, Cruise Missile 2 concave IIRC, the concave that had 75? little facets all over the board, and it had a bit of rocker in the middle which was a bit weird for board slides, but it sure gave the board some snaps! Here is one for ale on ebay, in the last pic you can see the faceted concave on the tail, Natas Kaupas 1989 Skateboard Santa Monica Airlines Evil Cat Awesome Deck | eBay

The last time I ollied a trash can in 2004 was also on Natas, a 101 board, it had the classic natas graphic on it, and a HUGE nose. I've always thought it was fitting that my first and last time over a garbage can was on a Natas, but that will hopefully (?) change on my 40th!

We saw a lot of them this year, and it's been years since I saw any. Maybe like Locusts, Cicadas etc, they have cyclical population changes, no idea.

Pretty cool to hold one, they are just sitting there looking at you thinking, "I could take you out if I wanted, but I'll give you a pass, this time...."

ah, i LOVE praying mantises! they were rare when i was growing up, so when i found them, i'd keep them as pets for a while and feed them crickets. it was fun to watch them 'hunting". i got one to eat bread out of my hands once. Love those things. never see them anymore.

They seem to like the huge windows on my building at work. You look up every now and then in the summer and see 6" aliens clinging to the glass.

Havent seen any praying mantis' for many years. When I was a kid I found a walking stick in the wild. It was on the sleeve of my coat. I panicked and knocked it off then was like 'crap, where'd that go'. Couldnt find it again

The killer whales trapped in the ice in northern Quebec. The 11 whales were confined in a space of about 30 feet by 30 feet, where they use an opening for a breathing hole
The ice can move quickly, and while a split in the ice opened a pathway for the whales, the orcas are still inside the ice-covered Hudson Bay. The whales still have over 100 kilometres to travel before they are in the open waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Freed orcas not out of harm's way, expert says - Montreal - CBC News

This thread needs some Gaudi architecture:

These all are from around Barcelona, Spain and look just as terrific in person as in picture

    Parc Guell

    Casa Mila

Sagrada Familia - this is still under construction, has been for decades and will be for decades more even with modern construction technologies
