    make-over madness

Trying to access forum through tapatalk. I use the 'participated' tab to keep track of recent threads.

With the conversion, threads that I've participated in recently aren't displaying. Anyone aware of a setting, etc that may impact this?

    make-over madness

And while we're on the subject of conversion: I suggest we keep this relatively positive as a community wiki.

The change had happened and for good reasons (less spam) so complaining about the new software isn't going to help or change anything.

Well, I just took a self imposed about 10 days away from MTBR and just came back, but this new forum "upgrade" I think will cause me to take a permanent vacation from here, just not as easy to follow or see the forums etc.

Just so the Admins/Mods are clear - I HATE HIS NEW DESIGN!

Yep. Really like being able to see the rep I've given out. Not that crazy about the "Latest Forum Posts" display.

Did anyone else notice that it now auto saves as you're typing a post? Yay! No more lost dissertations!

    Edit:

Ooooooh....and apparently you get instant notification when you get rep. I'm already out for the day, but there's always tomorrow!

I think im with you mate, i mean has anybody looks at the latest posts section, its got members names first and looks like its all rolled into one, it would take 100 years to work out, same goes for subscribed threads, its a poorly layed out new forum, the last one was 100 times better, i really have just about lost my enjoyment for mtbr, and its sad for me as i used to love the place..
Good luck all you great guys on here, im taking a break i think, cheers

Will take a little getting used to how to navigate, but seems okay, once Net Wurker's screen fix is employed. I don't like that there's not automatically a quick reply area at the bottom of the thread, but rather you have to click "Reply to Thread" first. Seems like a step backwards.

I think I'm actually starting to like the latest forums post display. It shows uploaded pictures. Anything that lets me see the pictures faster is OK in my book, I can get used to the rest.

Pixelated images are due to the lightbox view function. Click on them to get them larger and in a lightbox.

Eh. Maybe I'm just easy going, but it doesn't bother me that much...

My biggest problem is I haven't had to "log in" since I created my profile, so I couldn't remember my password.

Hope you're not gone forever Tone's; we'll miss you, mate!

BTW--thanks NetWurker. I immediately switched mine to wide after I read that!

Ops.... looks like Francois video on how the new forum works is revealing a little bit too much, hes been doing a bit of repping at 03:24 and when you watch it on 720p fullscreen its quite clear.

Mods might want to take it down before too many see it.

I'm ode skoo so while the new interface looks slick, there is a definite performance penalty and my brain is hard-coded for plain lookin text mode. Must be from staring a green terminal screens back in the 1980's for so long every day that when I closed my eyes to go to sleep at night there was a green GLOW hahahaha.

That little clip of the rep panel in the video should probably be taken down. We don't need any more people revved up about rep--it simply isn't worth it.

I gave Francis the heads up that it could be seen and told him thanks for the laughs regarding his rep showing, he got back to me and had a laugh and was cool about it, i dont think his worried and he didnt do anything wrong, he just left a few choice messages with his rep, thats not against the rules, but i would like the ability to pos or neg rep the same person more than once, sometimes 3 times a day like he does, and to think we were made feel bad about rep circles, but i suppose the admin needs a few lurks and perks, i had a feeling the admin and mods could do that and it looks like i was spot on
But to say its unbelievable he still has a job is going a bit far guys, im sure he does everything for nothing and he didnt break any rules, so dont jump the gun guys....

    Lol. Vacation alert. Haha.

New format is ok. I don't mind it. Changes always meet some resistance. In couple of days - we will have gotten used to it. No biggie.

It also loads faster for me.

OK, what's the secret to "reply with quote" and not have the reply at the very end of the thread??

only admin can do so. Mods and supers are still limited to 5 reps per day.
    Try this: HTFU

you can change the display setting from linear to threaded and see the quotes underneath original post. That makes it hard to read in my opinion.

Spam filters haven't been brought online yet. They will be coming on slowly to make sure they don't interfere with other functions.

I kinda like it. especially thanks for the tip on widening the layout. it's taking a little adjustment just finding how some functions moved but that doesn't bug me at all.

not thrilled with the grainy pics, though. that one bugs me.

    Operator error?

I seem to recall seeing an option to turn off avatars and signatures. Did you turn the avatar display off?

I think the grainy pix are when a picture is attached, as opposed to linked to somewhere else on the net with image tags, the new default is to show a thumbnail of the attachment, and when you click on it, it shows the real image.

But, the thumbnails are somehow showing as big as the real image. A thumbnail is supposed to be tiny, and if you blow it up to a big size, it will look all grainy and pixalated.

Try clicking an an attchmnet, it will probably open in a new page with the correct image.

Nope, it does not seem to be compatible with windows 8's internet explorer 10. I changed to chrome for windows 8 and no problem. Just like to use ie 10 because it has auto correct.

I am not a fan of the fixed screen res either. Site is VERY difficult to read on anything wider than 20". Also running uber slow, but hoping this is only a temporary thing.

EDIT: I found the wide mode option, banner div does need to be centered though.

Still stupidly slow. I have typed almost this entire comment whilst watching the first few words appear. Hopefully it will sort itself out once all the new traffic jazz has finished smashing the servers.

Really? We aren't employees. We were here for years before becoming mods and now we shouldn't have any fun and behave just like everybody else?

If you want higher standard people judging your behavior, I can pretty much guarantee you that this place would be more strict. Some of us are fun loving and what you are saying would get me kicked off.

Yep found it after a couple of mins of tinkering. Cheers

Now the site just needs to speed up again. Its like riding a bike with a rusty chain and seized bearings with how slow the response times area at the moment. I suspect this is due to high server demand with everyone having to load the new layout over the last couple of hours?

Hold the owner and mods to higher standard? This place is starting to bring the suck with all the sanctimonious attitudes over an inconsequential matter like using the rep system as it was designed. Some of you guys should learn to relax a bit. New format is to my liking, thanks Francois and everyone else. That is all.

you do not have to be a mod. it is your choice... i think when one takes upon such responsibility - one has to remove any conflict of interest from such position... with regards to reps - that is not why we are here - is it? MTBR was equally as fun place without rep as well. i believe that mods, supers and admins should be able to receive rep, but not hand it out... not as a feature, but maybe an internal rule...

hey - it's just an opinion, not meant to remove any fun from you guys being members FIRST AND FOREMOST. i acknowledge that....

I can even live with pos repping by mods, but neg repping is just not right - if you ask me...

reading/posting fun posts is still on the top of my "fun factor" list... rep system is something i can easily live without...

Quick question: On a few posts where pics have been attached, I see a 'thumbnail attached' icon but I can't figure out how to actually see the thumbnail or what I assume should be a link to a larger pic. Is there a setting that I need to change?

gotcha. I can dig that you have opinions on this and it's equally valid to mine. We can't both be Leaf fans. But going along with your conflict of interest, I should probably sell all my bikes because it's probably a conflict of interest that I have more Shimano than Campy or Sram. That I like steel and ti more than aluminum and carbon. That I like gears (well, actually, that's not true. I need gears...*sob*).

I guess what I'm saying is, there are conflicts but we do the best we can to make the right call. And. You're kind of stuck with us. nyah, nyah.

You see that facebook thing in the middle top in the dark banner? "f connect"? The to the right of that, "Welcome, John Kuhl," all your links are to the right of that.

Clicking on the Quick Navigation doesn't send you back to the forum showing on the button. For example if I'm done reading this thread, clicking on the Quick Navigation button (which is showing "Off Camber") in this example doesn't send you back to Off Camber. You have to either scroll down or use the back one page button on the browser. I guess it's not a big deal but if this could be fixed that would be nice.

Thanks girlonbike, I got the first question answered. On the second question, let me try
again. On the old site it told you when the last time you visited. Like you last visited 18

AZ, didn't you go to the pen for "using the rep system as it was designed"? At least that is what you were saying...

I don't actually think anybody got a time out for what they wrote in rep comments? I don't actually have actual knowledge but that was my understanding.

    And...

You mister. Hang in there...I will try to not use the rep button except in case of emergency when I'm laughing hysterically. How's that.

nyet, that is not MY conflict of interest related to this discussion. MY conflict of interest in this case was affected by reading the comments that were left to other members of the forum in the form of negative rep. Some of them could be violating the rules of this site. If someone who is enforcing the rules - is violating them at the same time - that is not good - hence potential conflict of interest. Neg repping is not necessarily conflict of interest. How one uses it - may be. This explanation is just for the purpose of clarifying my comments and quite honestly is way to serious for what I want to limit my comments on the subject. I would not have brought it up myself, though. Not that important really...

By the way - I think that the upgrade is for the better. We have to move on with technology. Appreciate the effort of those that put their time in this project. I know how much time it takes...

Thanks, didn't see that. Still I think the old version had it so you can just click on the Quick Navigation button and back you would go to the Off camber forum-that's a bit easier than going all the way to the top to click on that link, especially with a Quick Navigation button just inches away at the bottom of the page . But I'm with you, no deal breaker.

Great. D'accord! Movin' right along...I misplaced my rep page. Where the heck is it? I see that I can customize my profile with pretty colors and streamers. And I guess I don't have an avatar. I need one but it's like a tattoo. Will I get sick of it in a week? a month? What if I died? Will it be there for eternity and people will think I'm totally a tool cuz the bee gees aren't cool anymore?

You mister. Hang in there...I will try to not use the rep button except in case of emergency when I'm laughing hysterically. How's that.
AZ knows what I meant - nothing to do with neg rep comments...

And you ma'am, you are a sweetheart. You are completely excluded from my comments about mods neg repping...
