    Limited Edition Lay's potato chips

Has anyone else been able to actually find these things? I've only had the Sriracha and can't find the others . . . apparently, they are a hot commodity, as bags are selling on eBay for like $9.00

I had the Chicken and Waffles flavor. Pretty good chips. I would like to find the Garlic Cheesebread flavor.

I fanally found the chicken and waffles a few days ago. I never eat potato chips, so I had to confront some weird personal weakness, marketing issues when I found myself watching the chip aisle for them in every store I went to. Such a sucker I am. These are kinda weird, but I liked them a lot.

^^^ Those are not at all chicken and waffles flavor! Albeit, they are some of my favorite crackers.

The Sriracha chips were really good . . . they don't taste much like Sriracha though.

Going grocery shopping after work, I'll have to spend a little extra time in the snack food aisle.

I have had all three. They are pretty easy to find around here for some reason. And honestly, I love potato chips but didn't really like any of the three new flavors. They all taste weird to me. The chicken and waffels ones were okay after a few beers but my friends love those ones.. That is the only bag of the three I finished.

No, that's the ebay price. If you can find them in your store, you can get a deal.

on eBay they are $9 . . . they are regular price in the store. But you can buy all three on Amazon from some unscrupulous bastard for $57 (with free shipping though!)

My point is, if they are selling for up to $9.00 on eBay, they will be hard to find overall because a few a-holes are going around snatching them all up to take advantage of people.

Therefore, I am officially boycotting them. I will NEVER try any one of them (not a single chip) even if they are offered to me for free!

I urge all of you to boycott them with me. Perhaps we can start a union.

I keep seeing the thread title, and thinking "limited edition, so people will collect them?", then I come to my senses and realize yes, of course they will.

No, definitely not . . . they are, however, directly responsible for the rise in popularity. Chicken and Waffles originated somewhere in the deep South, though nobody really knows when and/or where. Probably sometime during the era of slavery.

I've had the BLT and the roasted garlic ones. The BLT chips are quite nice and worth the search to find them. The roasted garlic has a fake garlic after taste like. I don't see us finishing that bag even with a house of four boys.

I've done all three - tried Sriracha over the W/E and am not impressed. The Garlic Bread was better than those - even though it would finish as any other cheesy chip would. Chicken and Waffles nailed-it - proper Caramel taste to it.

The only one I've tried was the Chicken n Waffles. I'm not real big on chips, and bought them in a moment of weakness. They weren't bad, the whole family enjoyed them.

What the H did I miss? Chips flavored like chicken and they're $9 a bag. Suckers! Why not cut out the middleman and just buy chicken it's cheaper.

The Aweful Waffle places are sleazy, greasy, filthy restaurants that serve up a dose of good diner food with a side of complementary salmonella. We eat at one every time we visit family back in the south.

Nobody knows who the first person to drop a bird in oil was, but the tradition of frying chicken in the US is credited to the Scottish immigrants. Or the French if you count fricasse. The waffle came from Europe, obviously. Folks both black and white were combining chicken and waffles as early as the 1790's in the US, maybe earlier according to some reports, but the practice wasn't found in cook books until much later. The idea was popularized by a NY jazz club in the late 1930's, Welles Supper Club (sp?), to feed late night partiers. Yes, the tradition of chicken and waffles is most closely associated with black culture, but white folks were/are eating plenty of chicken and waffles in the South as well. However, it's not just a Southern thing anymore.

Oh, and the Pennsylvania Dutch were eating waffles with chicken gravy as early as the 1600's, and likely earler. Since the waffle has been around since the middle ages, I'm guessing somebody had some version of waffle and bird by at least 1300 at the latest.

Now I have to go find a restaurant serving some chicken and waffles.

Edit: Actually the more I look into this, the more it looks like slaves did, in fact, eat chicken and waffles. As did whites during the same time period. As is the case today.

Because when folks buy a bag of chicken and waffles chips, tear into them, and then have that moment of guilt for purchasing and eating a whole bag of chips, I want them to know that bag of chips comes from a rich tradition.

    AND!
    BLT-flavor.

I think the BLT lineage traces to the stubby-armed dinosaurs. They were really really good at making sandwiches but with those stubby little arms could not eat any. No one says that they invented them though. It's proper.

    Mmnnnn. Dinosaur bacon.

May I suggest a few flavor options for the next limited edtion of Lays chips:

    Dinosaur Bacon
    Rat's Ass
Happy Endings Chicken or Happy Endings Waffle or Happy Endings Chicken and Waffles. These will come with a price menu.

Dino's were reptiles, snakes are reptiles, snakes taste like chicken, dino bacon would probably taste like chicken.... so it all comes full circle.

I tried the Chicken and Waffles flavor chips. Made it through 5 or 6 chips before I decided it was a terrible idea.

So, if I were to get a bag of these "limited edition" chips and dig into them, would it be the equivalent of "getting layed" by a really expensive hooker? I mean, they are "Lays" brand, correct?

Lay's sriracha flavor chips does not taste anything like the "original" sriracha sauce. Just my opinion.

I know I know calling the kettle black. I'm as guilty as the next, but I was just saying for you Hawg it was out of character. I guess Tone is wearing off on all of us.

Slow Danger thanks for the complement on my Rat rendition. Don't ask me where or how that popped into my mind. All I know is I was on the last one minute of my lunch hour at work. And I just had to squeeze that post in before my return.

Sometimes I get a bit crazy and go off the deep end.

The funny thing about your reply is what I was going to include in my last reply, "I think Tone's would approve of my post".

No, Hawg, it would not. Not even close. Your fingers don't get nearly that greasy eating potato chips.

007, it was actually Waffles, doing the Chicken. It's an ancient Korean move.

Actually, it wasn't the Chicken, it really didn't have a name. And her name was Anna. But that wouldn't have fit into the thread.

I guess Lays has an annual contest where folks can suggest new flavors for the potato chips. Evidently we, the chip eating public, can taste all four and vote for our favorite. Here's this years finalists, and I'm not seeing anything that I would want to use to flavor my chips. Could we get a new batch of finalists please?

I can't imagine wasabi ginger could be any good (e.g., wasabi flavored almonds are nasty and have an after taste that never goes away).

Mango salsa could be too sweet for a chip.

Cappuccino? Really, do we need coffee flavored chip?

Now bacon mac and cheese has promise. It seems to be trying too hard, but I would give it a whirl.

I don't know if they're available in my area, I'll take a look. If I could get a snack pack that would be outstanding because I'm not sure I could finish all these in larger quantities.

The cappuccino are gross. Period. The wasabi ginger is not something I'd try because I hate ginger.

Now the mangos salsa is surprisingly good. A touch sweet, yes; but not overly so.

I have a bag of the bacon Mac and cheese waiting.
