Lame Claims to Fame and Shame ?
This is the thread to share your claims to Fame and shame no matter how lame i want to hear them.

    I'll start the ball rolling..

When i was a kid i used to squash flies with a fly squatter with my lil bro, we collected a whole jar of dead blow flies in about 4 months in summer one year, we concidered that an impressive feat, we used to use dead birds, possums, rats what ever we could find to attract the flies and sit next to them all day squatting away...:skep:

I can swim an olympic swimming pool under water turn around and make it to the 60m mark.

I collect belly button lint, once again in a jar, and have one of the biggest collections in Oz, im looking to be a world record holder one day...

I used to eat insects, butterflies and moths at primary school for bets or just to get attention, mostly the latter..

Ive taken over 60 species of Sydney Harbour fish on lure and fly, and at least 15 of those are fish not considered fishable for on lure or fly...

Your turn guys, im sure you guys have tonnes of claims to fame and shame, i hear them on here every day, nows your chance to come clean, cheers:thumbsup::D

This is YOUR MOMENT TO SHINE, YOUR MOMENT to tell MTBR of your greatest achievement, and greatest claim to fame, dont let it slip trendsetters...........

I can swim two lengths of a 25m pool underwater. Never tried in a 50m pool.

I have eaten multiple live guppies for small change and attention.

    I hiked 27 miles in a day.

I was the first fat-bike rider at the Brown County Breakdown last year, and this year was the first to complete 100 miles on the fatty.

    yippee!

oh yah, & I can juggle, balls & clubs!

I seem to be remembered more for the heavy breathing in my climbing videos than the actual climbs (especially by male viewers! ;)). It has caused some petty bytching from faceless internet tough guys who claim to be cyclists

I don't care though. I love raw footage and always will. There are two simple solutions available for those who don't like it. Hit the stop button, or mute the audio. They can even play one of their favorite songs while the video is playing, which is a better choice than me putting music over it that I like and other people don't like.

I have a T-shirt declaring me the world's fastest fat man. Running, not riding. Age has taken a toll on that claim though.

I am also known locally as the world's slowest mechanic. It's a good thing I got out of that line of work.

I dunno. I guess my only claim to fame is whatever my "rep" is at.....?!

    <~~~

Edit: I got it now. A few years back one of my fish won "best in show" at the Canadian Association of Aquarium Clubs (convention) "fish show." It wasn't so much that we won (we won other local club's shows a few times) but it was the most entries in a "canadian" show ever (329 total entries).

Christina Ricci (I kept staring at her forehead)
Colin Mochrie and Curt Harnett (lived in my hood, Curt has not aged a day!)
Conrad Black (huge man, very polite and well spoken)
Rachel McAdams (pretty smile very nice)
Dame Judi Dench (chatted about Toronto)
Paris Hilton (prettier in person and really nice)
Vin Diesel (surprisingly small and seemed to like the company of men)
    Dennis Quaid (shared a cab)
    Roger Hodgson (Supertramp)
Colin Firth (oh gosh... very handsome!)

    lots more

Okay...I had to think hard, but I've got a few...

In 7th grade, I won the state history fair with a documentary video about the rise and fall of railroads. I bash editted the entire thing with 2 VCRs and a voice recorder.

George W. Bush (then Gov of Texas) wrote me a letter of recommendation for the US Air Force Academy....ended up not going (damn screws in my shoulder).

And lastly...my grandmother was 4th (I think) cousins with the Queen of England. I'm not exactly sure of the lineages or whatever, but I do know it to be true. I'm also sure there are 1000's of other people that are 3-4 times removed from royalty, but I thought it was cool.

well about 6 years ago I went skiing with a bunch of friends. The very first day we got there we started to drink, some one brought a big texas mickey. Well in an hour and a half the three of us polished off 3/4 of the bottle when we decide to head out for dinner. Well during the walk, we were walking along the edge of a 6' cliff (not high but wait). The village was just below so instead of taking the easy way around, we decide to hop the cliff or rock wall.

To make a long story short (to late) when my drunken self jumped I landed wrong and didn't bend at the knees and shattered my heel in 5-6 pieces. Well did I tell you this was the first day of the ski trip and never mind that it was Dec and the season had just started. It took me one year to be able to walk again.

My patrol that I use to ski patrol just shook their heads:madman:

back in the 90's, my finger was on Dateline NBC when the anchors were doing pieces about where they grew up. Jane Pauley went to my high school and there was a film crew in my geometry class. They got my finger and my calculator in one of the scenes that made it on TV.

Here are a few truisms about me:

I can count to 10 in 1 language easily, 2 languages with some thought, and 3 languages if I feel motivated to use google translate

I once met a cashier that reminded me of someone famous. I don't recall who it was, though

    I have seen dead people

I can swim underwater for as long as I can hold my breath

I am a morning person, but I haven't figured out in which time zone

    My poop stinks

My wife often makes comments about my lack of friends and then thinks about it for a second and says never mind

I once was in the same shop in Killarney, Ireland as the actress who played Blossom on TV. She was being mobbed by other people in my group but I kept my distance. Went through the checkout right behind her parents.

I saw John Kerry running through the terminal at BWI a handful of years ago.

A landowner who was letting me do field work for my thesis on his ranch told me that he used to own a ranch in Hawaii that was featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous BITD. He sold all his property in other states and consolidated to Texas so he didn't have to travel so much to manage his land.

Did you frame the ticket? I would have.

I used to play t-ball and at a young age had my ear pierced. Just one. During a game that had been going on for a few innings the umpire happened to notice I had an earring and called time. I asked what for? He told me I had to remove my earring. My response was that all the girls got to wear them--one earring per ear, non dangly and a necklace tucked into the shirt--why was I any different? He said because I was a boy. I told him that was ludicrous and if I had to remove my earring all the girls had to remove all their jewelry. We had to pause the whole game and all the girls had to remove their jewelry and hand it over to their parents. Fighting sexist rules and idiocy even as a youngster.

This is fun...tough to remember, but stories I still hear when I go to my home town:

7th grade - showed up to school driving a car that didn't belong to anyone I knew. Lots of strange looks from teachers

Once hit a guy so hard in football one shoe and his helmet came off. Joke was on me, he did a short stent in the pros, I didn't even play in college.

Walked into a dominos pizza and shot the guy behind the counter. With a paint ball gun. I'm not proud of this one but my high school buddies still think it was the best prank ever.

The first one (only one while I was there) in my college slosh-ball league to hit 3 home runs in a game (keg at second and home - not safe or moving to the next base until you drink a full beer at each)

    More recently:
First in my family with a post-graduate degree

Several published articles, patents, and conference talk credits

Led 4 first human use cases of new medical devices in a 3 year span. Working on #4 now.

Look how serious I've become. I think I need to start binge drinking again. :D
