    Intestinal bug passion

I am on day 7 of a nasty virus that's wreaking havoc on my intestines. Thought a couple of times during the week that I was starting to feel better and suffered the consequences

It's no fun sticking to bananas, rice/pasta, applesauce and toast (doc says mashed potatoes are okay too). I'm even avoiding coffee which is a major sacrifice. I've managed to stay reasonably hydrated with mostly water plus ~20oz bottle of Gatorade a day. Note: too much Gatorade increases "velocity" shall we say, so don' t go chugging the big bottles people.

This is only the 2nd time that I've had any stomach/intestinal bug everrrr and not pedaling all week is making me grouchy. Doc says it is unlikely that I got it from mud/stream splashed water bottle but I'm still thinking of switching to a small Camelback (swag win at some race last year) for a while at least.

I question the dietary advice you've been given... all those sugars/starches are probably feeding those buggies well, keepin' em fat and happy. Get some charcoal tablets and try fasting for a day or two to kill those *****es off.
Then follow up with plenty of acidophilus as you get back onto solid food to reestablish the good buggies.

+1. Chicken soup made from actual chicken contains the electrolytes you need.

Norovirus is nasty and is highly contagious. One of the best defenses is hand washing

    Hope you recover quickly edub.

OP mentioned it was viral not bacterial.

I actually started bouncing back in the afternoon yesterday... just in time to attend a friend's wedding last night (and not have to go running out of the ceremony or festivities).

I wash my hands thoroughly/frequently. From what I've read, symptoms can manifest themselves within 2-24 hours. I notice that many friends and colleagues skip the hand washing all together

I'm not a doctor and don't play one on TV, but if this cycles through again in the future, you might want to be tested for Giardia.

Meanwhile, hope things are getting back to normal.

I am not a doctor either, but I did once audition for the part of Florence Nightingale in a school play, so I hope you will all take my advice with the respect it deserves...

Why is this thread in the Passion forum?

Because the man has passion for intestinal bugs. Didn't you read the OP? (I didn't)

The Passion forum should be re-named General Discussion.

And then hide a forum way down in the list rather than at the top, so people who want it have to work for it - and call it MTB Passion. Post something in there that is lame, and you get the heave-ho!

This is one of the better quality passion threads, but thats not hard, at least its not pictures of the fall..

Or at least its not pictures of other peoples ugly kids that people are expected to give a shite about, or selfies pics of people riding with prophetic quotes under them for the 400th time..

    Day 187;

The latest experiment has failed. Turns out adding the word passion to the end of random things does not actually qualify as a passionate topic. Tone's may be correct, no humor over there at all. In fact, the back lash has sent topics not part of attempted passion take over back to OC as well.

Hrmmm. We may have to re evaluate the wisdom of the genetic mutations planned. If the back lash remains consistent through out these experiments, the gene splicing may be more dangerous than originally calculated.

Baby steps. Next experiment: posting about my favorite Mexico rides in the so cal sub forum.

Now, if we can just figure out how they keep tracing these experiments back to us.....

LOL - my thought was anti-passion (aka an appropriately twisted form of OC then).

Keep the Passion out of the OC!!!!!! Poop threads are welcome though, so this one gets a slight pass...

So, how can there be a functioning Passion thread for "bad riding/bike habits"? Can there actually be people with a 'passion' for doing shit the wrong way?

Do they do it wrong and constantly expect it to turn out right? I've heard that posited as one definition of insanity. I think Einstein said it.

I saw nearly the opposite happen at "Dog Beach" here in San Diego. A dog playing in the shallow surf shat* into the whitewater, followed quickly by a couple of oblivious kids running out with their boogie boards.

^This is exactly why I will not attend a water park. My family invites me all the time in the warm season, too. Nope...

GOB, in large bodies of water (lakes) you also have lovely buggers like Amoebas to worry about.

Didn't look like there was much "substance" to that. I'd go with something along the lines of chumming. IS there such a thing as "dissipaters"?
