I think my laptop is gonna catch fire !

Man , this thing is too hot to touch on the bottom near the heat sink.

and the hinge on the left is really hot too. It's a work computer, gonna take weeks and a trip to San Jose to get it looked at. Then if I get a new one, transferring all the files and crap takes all day !

Too many hot porn scenes.... your laptop is close to having a "big O". Rub it sensuously to send it over the edge.

The problem is worse if one uses cornstarch or body powder instead of a liquid type for "lube". The cornstarch leaves a cloud during the big O that gets sucked into the fan. Oh, I read this on the internet..

Is it a highend computer such as a Thinkpad T or W, or possibly an Elitebook? Or perhaps a Panasonic Toughbook? If not, there is your problem.
    And I'm serious too.

It's a Thinkpad T420 ... The Computer company I work for dolls them out.

I for got to get my temp probe out and see just how hot it is. I might run down to the truck and get it.
It's been running for a few hours and I can smell the hot plastic. I also put in a req. for IT to tell me what to do.
They will respond by email, just after it goes in flames and evacuates the building..

    brb.

    Edit:
At the left speaker grill I got 124 deg.F on the bottom at the same location it's 130 deg.F at the left hinge it's 97 deg. F

You need to get all the dust out from the computer, lenovo has guides on their site that shows you how to totally disasseble everything. And you are not voiding the warranty afaik with thinkpads by doing this. after a few years the coolers get clogged with dust and it needs to be removed. Also when you have it in pieces you should replace the cooling pasted between the coolers and the cpu/gpu. the best chemical to remove this with is diethyl ether, its found in "car starting gas", then remove the remaining thin film with acetone or booze. Also sometimes you need to shim the distance between the cpu/gpu and cooler with copper pieces that you have to make yourself.

If you are unlucky you have a coputer that always was running hot due to it being a thin version and/or someone chose to put in a "highend" (=really hot) gpu, then there is nothing you can do to eliminate the problem, but you can get as good as new or like a bit better by doing what I wrote up there. ^

I have a t400, but i chose the slowest cpu and intel onboard gpu and therefor the most quiet and coolest model in the range. Mine gets like warm but never hot no matter what.
