    I think I'm officially a Strava$shole

I started using it a few months ago. Now that I'm riding again after that broken clavicle, I've been religiously uploading all my rides to Strava. Going out of my way to hunt segments, even. And when I did that tonight, I ended up third overall on the segment. Tomorrow I'm going to go out and try to get the KOM. One of the guys above me on the leaderboard lives far away, so he can't defend his time. Specifically trying to best my friends' best rides on segments. There's more, too, it just isn't apparent at the moment.

But it's alright. I was already an a$$hole before Strava, so I like to think that I've simply joined a community of like-minded people. Strava on!

What is this Strava you speak of?

    And KOMs? WTF are those?
Do you get rep for them?

I used to ride around aimlessly thru the woods, with no purpose. No direction.

Then I found Strava. Or maybe Strava found me. It was fate. My birth rite. My destiny.

Now I am a king. I ride my wheeled throne through my kingdom. Sometimes I wave to the peasants as I pass. The womens wait in line, begging for their share of my royal seed.

I already ride like a strava*******, convinced i am super fast and giving chase to any "rabbits" i see on the trails ahead of me. I refuse to upload my garmin logs though... i want to continue pretending i AM the fastest on my trails.

    Where is the kudos button?

I'll admit I love strava. I'm a segment whore. The newsfeed for riding groups is great. I find it motivating.

Not that it effects the end game, but don't think strava makes someone an @sshole, it just brings it out more often in people, and brings people like that out more often.

These poor, misunderstood creatures get a bad rap. Clearly they're just trying to get the word out.

What is the fastest way to tell the most people about this life changing app? Ride as fast as possible and scream as loud as possible.

They do the Lord's work, saving people from half lived lives. Life without Strava is hardly worth living.

ha I've been using strava for awhile and I just like to have the elevation profiles and my times. I am always polite on the trail, stopping for hikers/mtn bikers alike. I see people all the time not stopping and I never understood what the point was....Until I came here and learned about strav*******s. It all makes sense now...

That's how it starts. Next thing you know, you're selling your first born off to some factory in Ski-Lanka just so you can afford carbon fiber wheels, cuz that's what you need to get that extra 25 seconds.....

There's a nutjob down here in my area that has been sanitizing trails specifically to improve his Strava times.

Said sanitization includes breaking off (not cutting) brush to improve sight lines. The broken branches are strewn barely off-trail, and the jagged edges of the remaining brush are left exposed to unsuspecting riders like punji sticks.

This douche-dribble has admitted doing this in local MTB forums, with an "apology" that was accompanied by an invitation for anyone disagreeing with his work to come on and down and discuss it in person.

Best part is the KOMs he owns on that trail system. Zero. Point. Zero.

"Your inability to KOM does not constitute an emergency on my part."

What I would do for those last 25 seconds... Hell, even 16 would push me past my buddy on a local segment, to the top of the leaderboard of people who were on bikes for that segment. I've yelled "STRAVA!" on some occasions, but that wouldn't help on this segment. Nope. It's flat for a third, steady ~4% grade for the next third, then it goes overtime and hits ~11% for the last third. There's no air in my lungs for yelling on that segment. I'm not really sure how to get those last 16 seconds, short of selling my (non-existent) first and second and maybe even third-born kids.

    This is a useful tool.
It will show you your best ride on a segment against the KOM ride. It's helpful to see where you are losing time.
