    Headphones During MRI?

This is definitely off-topic, but at least I was having the MRI due to a bike-related injury.

During the scan, I was listening to music via over-the-ear headphones. If you've ever had an MRI, you know that they take great pains to ensure you don't have metallic bits in your body, and obviously there are magnetic fields involved.

Given that, I was curious how speakers (headphones) could still work in that environment. Don't they all have magnetic drivers, or at least some metallic bits? Shielded somehow?

Warned you - waaaay off topic.

Why would you want to wear them in an MRI anyway? An MRI only takes a few minutes and it's non invasive.

    Just saying

I'm surprised that they let you have headphones.

DJ, MRIs last more like 40-45 minutes don't they? phlegm, how long was yours?

I've had a couple MRI's, and always wore headphones. Seems like I was in there for 20 - 30 minutes each time, and the banging and clanging noises the MRI machine makes in operation is a good thing to avoid as much as possible. How the headphones work in the magnetic field the device creates is a mystery to me.

Yes now that you mention it. I had one several months ago and it was about 20 minutes, with banging and clanging.

    Never mind my post above.

the head phones that they provide you don't use magnets or have magnetic or metallic components. They are the same as the old airline headphones that are just plastic tubes that the music travels through for another source.

If you can't see the music traveling through, did it really travel through?

But how do you know it traveled through without visually seeing it? Maybe the sound came in from the outer banks.

You're thinking of a CT scan. Those are quick.

MRIs take a looooong time and you must remain PERFECTLY still the entire time.

Yes, headphones are the way to go!

An entire album of what ever you choose.

But in DJs case, it would have to be a something that help him get over his newly uncovered fear. Something therapeutic.

No Ozzy for me, I'd be headbanging the whole time. It would take at least two nurses to keep me still.

A little Liberace would do DJ good me thinks.
