Not my mountain bike, there isn't any graffitti where I ride my Teocali, but here is some cool graffitti that made for interesting backdrops for my road bike in Japan.

I was looking at the new high rez google maps street view pics a few hours ago... and found some cool graffitti in Oakland, I was also looking in Paris. The Frenchies love graffitti too.

I can't find the locations I found earlier this evening but here's a link (NSFW): http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&...03773584905661

Grant Park in Milwaukee has this railroad bridge, and since I was a child one side said, "It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it"
and the other side said, "It's only funny till someone loses an eye". They have since repainted the bridge...what a shame as the graffiti
was as much a landmark as any other feature of the park, or the city for that matter.

I've always felt that the archer's arrow (and bow string) was added much more recently. The line is much finer than anything else there.

Next time you're there, get down close to the archer and you will see that the desert varnish has actually significantly re-formed in the bottom of both of the thin lines, which would seem to indicate that they are very old, as I think it takes a long, long time for that stuff to form. (There are numerous other panels along a stretch of the river between Hurricane and Washington, that are on almost horizontal, slightly inclined slabs, that we were looking for one day, when we realized that they were so old, that they had COMPLETELY re-varnished, and were now black on black, and that we had already walked right past nearly one hundred panels, while looking right at them!)

I personally think that this is the real deal, and therefore, is one of the most unique petroglyphs I've ever come across. I believe that the thin lines were incised, by using the edge of a stone blade, rather than pecked or chiseled in.

I can't imagine that the original artist would have created a partial design, without these two lines.

Oh Yeah, there are some other panels in a narrow canyon, a few miles west of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, that have also completely re-varnished, and are also now black on black...

This one is from the great wall of Copenhagen. A fortification meant to protect Copenhagen from landside invasions and artillery attack. After WW1 artillery had devoloped to the point where it was possible to bombard the city from way beyond the perimeters of the fortification and it was abandoned in 1920. Now it's a 13 km long urban singletrack to me! :) More info here: http://www.vestvolden.info/Eng/

I agree with you but that hack graffiti is on a cess pool near a junk yard so no biggy in this case. Great riding spot however that alot of people here will recognize.

I don't know if this qualifies as graffiti, but its damn impressive, the pic doesn't do the size of this thing justice. Its a massive mural at Lynn Woods, just north of Boston.

I like that graffiti has the potential to artistically convey something, but, the subject matter is usually nothing more than the painters name, with of course the obligatory skulls/flames motif. Well. What an original and artistic way of expressing... your name. Great. If Van Gogh only ever sat around signing his name without painting anything, we'd think about as highly of him.

Until someone paints something more, the medium seems to me to be stunted in its early elemental stages of style without substance. On the other hand, I don't care, because the things that usually look trashy with trashy tagging, look just as trashy without it. I do like the more thought-provoking stuff tho.

But that sh*t in the woods... not cool. If I came across that, I'd be right back out there with turpentine and a scrub brush the next day.

I live in a rail town, so I see lots of graffiti. Its hard to get shots of though, cause its usually going about 50 mph.

There is a race a bit south of here in IA though that's held on a former munitions factory or something. Interesting race, and since its in a pretty urban center, there's lots of graffiti. None of it is very good, but it does provide an interesting back drop.

Anyways. graffiti is pretty cool. I don't care if there's a 'message' in there or not. I like the color, the boldness and the graphic elements, and sometimes political commentary(stencils style stuff).
