    Okay expert golf guys..

See a doc or is it just "normal" beginner injury and will go away in a day or two? Get a wrist brace?

Right arm is numb/tingly from fingers up to my elbow and wrist hurts like crap to deep stabbing pain if I move the wrong way. Obviously don't move it that way and the problem is solved.

Go figure. Saturday I end up falling backwards down a hill (including my bike) into a creek and walk away with some mild injuries and soaking wet. I use a golf club for an hour and my hand is agony a few hours later.

No you should not have pain. Did you hit off mats or grass? Don't know of course what effect your prior injuries had but in general mats and catching too much surface at the bottom of your swing can lead to problems over time but generally not in one session.

I'm with Zo on this. More information is needed. Like are you right or left handed? Previous injuries?

Better question, were you hitting the ball well?

I am not exaggerating when I say that I'm an excellent novice bowler. I know little about the game. I don't put a curve on the ball, my technique is flawed yet I managed to bowl over 200 whilst only having bowled maybe 3 or 4 times in the past 10 years.

I can't explain it any more than you can. It's a combination of competitive desire, exceptional talent and almost inhuman confidence.

If I'm ever in Portland we can get together for several competitions. First we can find a bar and play shuffleboard and darts. Next we'll head over to the bowling alley where I'll show you my skills. If it's sunny, a state of weather that's highly unlikely in Oregon, we'll go play some golf and then finalize it with a game of horseshoes. Don't be surprised if I win everything we try. Oh, and bring cash.
I never bowl anymore but I remember bowling over 200 when I was 12, once. I had no idea that was good. I think my other two rounds were pretty low that day. I know a bowling alley that is next to a strip club. I'll drop you off, you go bowl, I'll go watch the girls dance, and let me know how you did. OK?

    Darts, shuffleboard, horseshoes, meh.

Golf, I guess you melt in the rain? Figures. If we did golf, heavy drinking would be required.

    No previous injuries.

Again, forgive my lack of terminology. We started out with a putter and worked on putting the ball into the hole from various distances around the practice area. We went over holding the club and correct posture/form and using the club correctly. Right hand started to twinge after about 10 minutes, but chalked it up to newbie status learning to use the club and learning a new muscle skill. That part was pretty easy, line up the ball with the center mark on the club, gauge the distance/speed and hit the ball into the hole. No problems and made almost all the shots. Couldn't make it past the windmill though..(just kidding)

He gave me a different club and moved to the the outside area around that had higher grass and worked on using it to get the ball up into the area where the hole was. Again, working on posture, hand positions and the swing. It was hard to get comfortable with the angle of the club (58? I think) and follow through cleanly. Right wrist hand started to hurt there.

Finally moved out to regular grass and worked on that. It was just hard to find a position comfortable enough to swing the club, without using too much wrist motion and hit the ball. By the end, my right wrist and arm was really starting to hurt. I was hitting the ball okay, just way off and to the left of the hole. Almost got a hole in one once though.

I met up with hubby next door and went to lunch. Holding a fork or a glass and writing out a check to pay for the food was agony. Came home and iced the wrist. Despite icing, my arm and hand just started going numb and tingling when I first posted. I'm doing much better now but it still hurts.

I did have a good time. If it's just a learning curve and weak muscles thing I get it.

Sorry to hear about your wrist. No, that's not usually. There probably wasn't anything you were doing wrong unless you had a death grip on the club. It sounds like someone with experience was helping you or giving you lessons. So, since you had some experienced eyes watching, I doubt we'll have much advice. It was probably caused by all the hours you've spent on the bike. :-)

The reason I asked which side of the ball you were hitting from is because a swing fault called a chicken wing causes tension in the lead/front arm.

Image 1 is a chicken wing. You can see the stuck position the elbow and arm are in and will usually cause elbow issues but sometimes it causes wrist issue. Since your issue is probably the back hand and and/or started with the putter it's probably not the issue.

Well gents, I have to say it's been fun. To all the guys over at GR I want to say that I've enjoyed your company and especially enjoyed the golf discussion. I can't seem to log on to GR any longer but maybe that's for the best. Everything runs its course. I enjoyed my matches with Big Dave, Riverologist, Lake Ologist, Kiwi Player and Noschuz. I enjoyed my club ho'ing stories with Mongrel & OP. I also appreciated the banter with Zo, HB, NAH, the tractor driving guy, Poe and many others. Don't worry about me. I'll continue to be the greatest ballstriker that ever lived and will always be seeking out great deals on golf clubs.

My focus now will be on tournament play and expanding the FD fan base.

    FD has left the building.

PS - I may have left you a PM

Seem to be doing better today. Not sure if you have a convert yet, but I get why you guys like it.

City course was pretty cheap. 14 bucks for 9 or 18 holes because it's winter including the cart. Rent the clubs for 5 bucks and not sure what a trail fee is but it's 6. A lesson is 30 bucks for an hour which I figure isn't too bad. He gave me yesterday's for free. I bet it's because he liked my bike so much when he let me take the pic Saturday.

So I can pay 30 bucks worth of gas for an hour drive to a mountain bike park or pay 30 for a lesson of golf at a course 20 miles away. You win. It is the same difference and I gracefully concede defeat. I will never make fun of a game where you hit a ball with a stick trying to get it into a hole ever again. I do draw the line at paying a premium exclusion fee and will keep to the city's course though.

    Evening Troops:

I can't log in on GR anymore either. It says "You have used up your failed Login Quota! Please wait 15 minutes before trying again". I assume this is the issue everyone is having.

I have never seen that bug before, and I don't imagine it will get ironed out any time soon.

I made another post in a thread to Francois about GR, but again, I don't expect anything to come of it.

I was able to bum wireless off my neighbor today, as the ONLY service provided up here can't hook me up with my own until at least April. So I have internet at home now.

As someone who still has the ability to post over there, I could burn down the place for you. Perhaps graffiti the place with gay porn and anti-golf propaganda.

    Wow, wow, wow, STOP!

I thought you actually hurt yourself but now I see that this is just a big joke, since no one in their right mind still writes cheques to pay for things. Especially small items and meals.

After all, it's no longer 1998.

    Whhhhhhaaaaaaaa.

Perhaps a sticky explaining the lack of active members due to the login bug would be nice. With a link to this thread as a safe haven for communication. But don't use this as an excuse to google gay porn. That's all you, brother.

Where is Sooner!? I bet he still owns the domain name from his golf website, which name escapes me.

I'm in the same login situation. It's been that way for over a week now. Thought I would just wait it out (thought that maybe upgrades/repairs were in progress), but it appears that we're pretty much done for.

I've been exploring some options for a replacement board for us to all migrate to on a more permanent basis, so far ProBoards is looking like a good place to start.

Since it appears buddha is the only mod who can still log in on GR, he will have to make sticky threads on both sides with a link to the new home once we get it set up, so that we can round up all of the lost sheep.

We just need to choose a name for the new place and git 'r done.

My suggestion for the new name is GR Lives Again. If everyone would be cool with that, I'll create the board myself, and we can get back to business as usual.

Yep, that's what it was, Golfers Empire.

FON, FD has also set up a board, see Spanks thread on GR for a link. There are 6-7 Members signed up.

Well, might as well sign up for both, I'll miss that old dump. Hopefully you guys can take necessary steps to enable new users to find us whether searching for golf reviews, golf forums or teenage boys.

Let's also make sure tonyj5 finds us. It's best to know where a guy like that is at all times.

Death I suppose is the only thing that can separate us. That said, I'm planning on being around for a long...uhhh....arghhh.....wohhhh..

I have also been locked out at GR... too bad, I was gearing up for some of my best replies in years... now they will be lost to history.

I like FoN's new board better than FD's. I think dividing the non-golf discussion into a non-golf and political is brilliant. Plus the ProBoards layout and font is much better than caddy, IMHO.

I'm in the works of putting together an actual website instead of one of the free forums.

This will avoid a lot of headaches and advertisements.
