Have you ever tried an electric grill? My dad uses one with wood chips placed around the heating element.

My wife is trying to talk me into one.. But, I'm like 'what's the point?'
I use a cast iron grill on my elec. stovetop now and have been getting pretty good results with it.
My parents had one to give us... it just looked like a George Forman grill on legs... No thanks,

Finally! Been waiting for a thread like this . . . . I LOVE to cook. My mom hated cooking, so her solution was to teach me. Been cooking since I was ~6 years old, and am still the primary chef in the home. I'll have to start taking more pics of my food . . . .

Tonight was lettuce wraps made with ground turkey, sautéed shallot, garlic, ginger and green onion and chopped shiitakes with a sprinkle of crushed red pepper served in a butter lettuce leaf topped with torn basil and hoisin along with a side of sticky rice.

Yesterday was an orzo salad tossed with spinach, onion, feta, sundried tomato and roasted chicken tossed in a pesto/white wine vinaigrette.

Tomorrow is pan seared chicken breasts with a garlic dijon pan sauce and a side of broiled brussel sprouts.
Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!

^Damn! That looks like a holiday meal.

Chili is done for now.. Cooling off before the fridge. Chili is always best re-cooked. Freeze it in double ziplocks -> use frozen chili as ice type pack in cooler on way to camping -> eat chili on everything while on said camping trip.

If more of us were closer together, I'd propose a chili cook-off (which I would win).

Gosh, when I lived in SoCal, it never got cold enough to warrant a batch of chili, but now that I'm in the high desert, it may be worth it!

Ya know . . . I used to think the same thing, but then one day I decided WTH, lets try em' again.

I've come to quite enjoy them actually. I'm sure they are delicious with some sort of salted/cured pork, as per above but my wife doesn't eat red meat. I've actually never tried sauted sprouts, but I usually cut them in half and toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder with a dash of oregano and roast them, cut side down. Comes out nice and soft with a slight char on the bottom. Really good . . .

Also tried doing both broccoli and cauliflower in a similar way and both are equally as good roasted.

Don't do them together. Broccoli cooks faster than the cauliflower.

Another interesting changes is to take broccoli rabe, toss with green onions, salt, fresh pepper, olive oil and the sprinkle a mixture of breadcrumbs/parmesan on top before roasting . . . . schweeeew . . . gooood stuff.

Happy b-day. I've already started cooking in preparation.
