Favorite Hostess Snack Thread...Don't be a Ding Dong.

We all know Hostess has become the latest fatality of our economy. There is another thread pertaining to that issue. So let's keep it light and fluffy. No talk about why they crashed
This is about your favorite Hostess snack growing up. Many of us grew up with Hostess as a staple in our junk food diet. Even though as adults we have given them up or cut down we still have fond memories of this iconic brand. List your favorite and then go in order to your least favorite. I was always a chocolate nut so my favorite's were chocolate.

    1] Ho Ho's
    2] Suzie Q's
    3] Ding Dong's
    4] Chocolate Cupcake
5] Chocolate Zingers / they sucked but I would choose them over the vanilla pastries.
6] No favorites in the vanilla category so I guess Twinkies
    7] Orange covered vanilla cupcakes
8] And all others pertaining to vanilla

Chocolate was where it was at with me. Oh I forgot Chocodiles they rocked.

Ho Ho's. Perfect cake to chocolate/cream ratio for my taste.

I found Twinkies to be too sweet and greasy for my taste. I remember buying Twinkie Light (or something along that line) back in early '90s, though I haven't seen it in years. I liked those.

They were collateral damage from the bakers union and the current administrations view on junk food. I know they were in bankruptcy and had a revenue issue but I think they could have reorganized like many companies do in this business climate. Why didn't they get offered a bailout? As far as I am concerned Hostess is a national treasure just like General Motors.

My uncle worked at the Wonder Bread bakery in Sacramento for 30 years and during that time the bakery union were always stirring up trouble during labor negotiations. My uncle would be the first to cross the picket line to do the job he was hired to do. I personally think unions have out lived their usefulness.

Getting back to the OP - Ding Dongs, Ho Ho's, Chocodiles, Twinkies. In that order.

I was all over the fruit pies as a kid. cherry, in particular. also, the foil wrapped ding dongs. the plastic wrapped ones are not the same. it was many years between ding dongs, so imagine my horror at the flavor of the first plastic wrapped one. I will never forget.

I went to the store yesterday to buy some Hostess stuff. I wanted a little bit to eat now, but I was gonna be that bastard who puts up the unopened boxes on ebay in a year or two and makes a bunch of money. even if some other company buys the recipes and continues the popular treats, the "Hostess" packaging would be worth money. I bought the last boxes of regular twinkies (nobody was touching the chocolate filled ones), and there wasn't a ding dong in sight.

Ha,ha good idea buy them up an eBay a year down the road. If you can hold out from eating them in that time, doubtful.

Twinkies for me. My brother and I consumed more than I care to remember.
Heard that Pabst Brewing company was looking to possibly pick up the brand. Could be a great cross marketing platform, Remember the alcohol energy drink fad? How bout a Blue ribbon twinkie?

Yeah cherry pie is/was my favorite.

Funny thing happened at a local farmers market a couple weekends ago. One of the merchants were selling home made fruit pies for $12.00 a pie. I was offered a sample of the cherry pie and asked how I like it. I thought to myself that it sure tasted like a Hostess cherry pie but thought that would be rude to say out loud so I said yeah it tasted real good. I did end up buying an apple pie from them.

what a coincidence. there's a lady at my local farmer's market that sells homemade versions, too. she even has some savory ones that are good for a lunch. WAY cheaper than $12, though.

I was always a fan of Ho Ho's.

Ding Dongs were my second favorite.

Cupcakes cause the swirly white frosting was just fun to eat.

Twinkies really aren't that good. I haven't ate one in like 20 years.

I just ate the last two packages of chocolate zingers this weekend. They were the last anything Hostess that the grocery store in my town had.

Haven't been to any gas stations in the area, but I bet they are dried up.

Less snack foods to eat will mean I can loose weight easier. I think.

idiots are putting them on ebay now. must be patient, but if they're going for $20 now, I should do well putting my mint, authentic HOSTESS Twinkies up there in a year. Especially after some other company buys them up and tweaks the recipe.

There was a Hostess "thrift shop" on my way home from work. I thought I'd stop on Friday and pick up a few items for the sake of nostalgia. It was sold out, closed down, and had an "out of business" sign on the window by 5:30 Friday afternoon.

    Favorites:

    1) Ding Dong
    2) Hoho
    3) Suzy Q (frozen, they are like a thick ice cream sandwich)
3.5) chocolate Zingers (also excellent out of the freezer)
    4) raspberry filled powder sugar donuts (can't believe no one has mentioned those yet).
    5) chocolate donettes

In the offer history, every offer has been declined. He's probably getting a bunch of clowns offering him $3.99 or whatever retail is on a box of Twinkies (although the seller is the real clown).

I was in a gas station / convenience store today and while waiting for my coffee to be reheated in a microwave I notice a full rack of Hostess. I thought everybody was sold out by now. So what was staring at me but one of my favorites and the last one they had. A dual pack of Suzie Q's so I scooped it up. Now I'm afraid to eat it knowing that in a years time I could e-bay it for $500,000.

oh what the ****, it's OC

so when i was a little kid, me, my bro, and our friend Bryan had some ring dings. as you know, they come in packs of 2. i told our friend that i'd "flash him" for the second ring ding. As in, lift my shirt. i was a kid, so i had NOTHING going on. i looked just like him as a matter of fact. But he had a crush on me so he accepted. i'm such a ho.

Well the inevitable happened a lot sooner than I had expected . The dual pack of Suzie Q's I picked up yesterday disappeared. Yep I set them on the seat of my truck. I hadn't eaten all morning and as 10a.m. rolled around I couldn't help myself, so I ate um. The initial plan was "the hold" then "the sell" on eBay in a year. They didn't make the trip.

Seriously? In this day and age of people being aware of the origin of ingredients in processed foods (and the questionable processing methods), they still eat this garbage??? I think I’ve eaten a Twinkie twice before (sometime back in the late 1970s) and maybe a Suzie Q once in the early 1980s. Even with the immense amount of weed I smoked in the decades after that, I still had no desire to eat that stuff.

I believe this is old news. It's this new company called Hostess Brands LLC that bought out the old Hostess Inc company that had filed for bankruptcy. They started selling twinkies back in 2013 under the Hostess Brands LLC company. They made the comeback possible.

Yes old news that's why this thread was started. What I'm wondering is if this new brand makes all the original Hostess snacks from back in the day. Anybody seen actual original Ho-Ho's or Suzy Q's etc... Out and about.

I believe they do. I only eat Twinkies and they've been made by the new company since they started in 2013. They seem to taste slightly different though. They're legit Twinkies but I'm certain they mucked with the recipe just a little, maybe they're using different preservatives or something. I'm pretty sure I've seen the others on the shelves but like I said I zero in on the Twinkies.
