I have been trying to get the details from the web but not too much info out there yet. Horrible thing to happen. I wonder the who & why this was done.

From what I've heard around the web from people that saw the explosion on TV (I cannot confirm); was that the explosion came from the inside of a window. If there were in fact BB's / ball bearings found, that would indicate a terrorist act. Before the internet, I would have said that they had some type of militaristic training (this is the claymore mine effect).. but yea...

It could be a deranged person looking for his media spotlight or a terrorist cell, the investigation into it will reveal that.

On another note, while I feel horrible that this has happened, and that my thoughts and prayers go out to those affected, I wonder how much more of our (US citizens) freedoms will be eliminated along with this act. This is exactly what terrorists aim to do.. by inflicting terror upon a nation's citizens, they try to influence change. Its pretty sad tbh.

23 injured and 2 dead so far. prayers for them and their families.

I heard reports of packs or packages outside the buildings, leaning against a wall.

now confirmed by law enforcement that there were 2 small, homemade bombs. I still have not heard anything about ball bearings on the feed I have up.

now flight restrictions are being put in place.

very suspicious. Islamic extremists frequently do suicide bombings and there's no indication of that here so far. I would not be surprised if this was a homegrown terrorist.

One report I saw said this marathon was being run in honor of Newtown massacre victims, and family members were in the VIP seating near the finish line. As if this isn't tragic enough...

So sad that somebody thinks that killing innocent people is OK for whatever their reason. With all the anti government, anti tax feelings out there and with this being tax day my money is on somebody making an anti tax statement.

Hope they are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Wonder what's going on in Congress or being voted on or passed while this distraction is going on. It's a nice diversion from North Korea and their little rocket launch threat fest, too.

    Just tossing up information.
    April 15, 2013 6:38 PM

CBS News senior correspondent John Miller said there is “an individual in custody,” a Saudi national who was near the scene of the blast.

Miller said a civilian claims the person was acting suspiciously and chased him down and tackled him after the explosions.

The man is said to be cooperating with investigators and denies any involvement.

At this point they believe it is confined to Boston, but a meeting tonight will decide whether any kind of national alert will be sent out. There is no suspect in custody, authorities say, but some people are being questioned, including some with injuries who were taken to Boston hospitals. One of those, a person in whom there is some interest, is a young person who was here on a student visa," NBC reports.

The POTUS says the full weight of the law will come down upon the perpetrators of this act.

I would expect him to say nothing less.

I read something about that on Info wars if that is what you are refering.
there are a variety of reasons why teh dogs may not have been able to pick them up, the product will leave a signature so regardless of materials used its fairly easy to find someone usually, no conspiracy necessary they will find whoever did this in I would say 48 hours.

Aside from the April 15th Tax Day/Patriot Day connection, there is another anniversary celebrated on April 15th...

April 15th is the birth date of North Korea's first leader, Kim il-Sung. NK likes to do a lot of show of force and running their mouths on April 15th every year. I'm not explicitly saying they are to blame. But it is another option to look at.

April 15th was 3/4 of a day ago as far as North Korea is concerned, with our time zones. They would more than likely go after the west coast, not the east coast. Boston is a favorite with the Muslim's, if indeed this was a cell attack, but the signature and the damage is too small, not enough loss of life, the signature doesn't fit, this isn't going after American Capitalism.

Patton Oswalt, if you havent already seen it..

    Boston. ****ing horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Eh, I care not for their motive; only that they get caught and get f***ed in the *** to the fullest extent of the law.

Spot on Jeff. I watched the press conference with the Governor, lead investigator, police chief etc but it was the lead prosecutor that said it best with the words like Times like these do not show our weakness but they show our strength.

Meanwhile, in news I am pretty sure will not even rate a mention in the US today, several car bombs have gone off in Iraq killing 50 and wounding hundreds off people just like you and me going about their everyday lives.

Sick of all the talking heads & speculation, and the same endless video clips.

Tend to agree with Tone's, to hell with being PC, this tragedy will be proven to some extremist religious nutjob.

    Boston Marathon Explosion

Time will show that the individual(s) responsible will have a sex, a skin color, and strong beliefs, whether they be religious or some other domain. Most concerning is that these acts will always be impossible to stop. We simply need to live our lives to the fullest and not be controlled by fear. This is the lesson I learned with 9/11.

Like Terry Nicoles, Timmothy Mcveigh and Eric Rudolf?

Let us turn out backs on whoever did this, if they are found then let those suspects have a fair trial, a single appeal, and if found guilty excecuted on the spot and their names never spoken again and their graves left unmarked.

    From the same source:

Why the conspiracy theorists will have a tough time with Boston.

Boston Marathon bombing conspiracy theories depend more on people's emotional needs.

Edit: btw, the source is just a source. I provide it simply because it seems germane. My personal beliefs are not featured here in any way.

Looks like the Saudi "in custody" was guilty of being both Middle Eastern and at the crime scene only. He's not a suspect: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/17/us...ions.html?_r=0

However, this article also mentions that the type of bomb used is similar to those used in Iraq.

Also, today the NYPost is being roundly criticized for its tabloidesque coverage of events yesterday. Chum, good job taking down that article as you were microblogging.

I can tell you by the direction of the blast, that the first bomb directed almost all of it's gaseous energy straight up into the air... there was nothing indicating force of any great significance laterally, if you look at the videos of it going off and shock waves moving fences, they hardly moved at all... it only broke the first layer of glass of the building behind it, the second layer of glass was intact. It was not a very powerful bomb, not like the stuff or IED's made by those folks from the middle east.

The old runner didn't fall from the blast, he fell from his ear drum being damaged and losing his equilibrium and balance as a result, so he stumbled to the ground, disoriented, unable to keep his balance.

So you are saying that nobody lost a leg, and that everyone was an actor? Seriously. What's your point? Have you not seen video of the twisted up guardrails/fences that the fine first responders were trying to move and untwist in order to get to victims? Certainly not a huge bomb. But damaging enough. Oh, I get it. You're saying the bomb was intentionally small in order to do the least damage and still instill maximum fear because the price of gold is dropping or something. That's cool. A little government distrust is healthy. So let's wrap up:

Just because the event happened on tax day, on Partiot's day, on the anniversary of Oklahoma City, it couldn't have been homegrown because it just doesn't add up.
Just because the bombs used are similar to those used in Iraq and Afghanistan, it couldn't have been a foreign terrorist because it just doesn't add up.
The only true explanation is that nothing here adds up so it must be the government.

    Got it.

A Short Recent History of Pressure Cooker Bombs

    SNIP

The identity of the Boston bomber or bombers remains very much unclear, and it would be foolish to jump to conclusions. It would also be foolish to ignore the recent dark history of the pressure cooker as a method for killing innocent people.

No I was really looking for the point in your post regarding being interviewed about the Unabomber and name dropping an FBI agent. I thought you were going to bring that to a conclusion that would lead me to understand your point of view.

But it really doesn't make two shits to me, so have a good one.

Boyonadyke, it's nothing personal on my end. Call me names all you want. I really have no idea what you are talking about. You're not making a lick of sense. Maybe you should go line out your scenario for this act in the conspiracy theory thread. I'll happily read it. And let it go at that.

IMO it was not all that impressive but it does show that people will use anything they can get their hands on to get attention and panic people.

YES, it and the people who experienced this event absolutely deserve better, and would probably be offended at this display of pettiness.

Hey everyone, just a tangent, but not long ago I suggested a thread not unlike this one be shut down. Mostly because I knew within about 5 posts that nothing good could come from the entire thread. I shouldn't have done it. I later realized these exact same conversations were going on everywhere on the internet, from political blogs, to newspaper comments, to car and mechanic forums. Everybody is talking about these exact same things. It's not just an mtbr issue. This is water-cooler stuff around the country today. Our job is simply to avoid name-calling and outright hostility and too much insensitivity to the victims. If somenone says something too outrageous, or uses poor source material, she/he should be called out.

All you have to do is ignore the thread. Those who stay have to "try" to respect the mods if someone does decide to take it down.

You are correct on all counts, and calling someone out does not require name calling, emotionally driven words, or other such things to get a counter-point across.
