I love Bob! Heck, it wasn't the only reason, but a big reason that my wife and I got married in Jamaica! Negril, Jamaica.....an amazing place for sure!

Actually, my son's very first word was Bob. No joke, I have a wood carving of Bob from Jamaica and seeing that everyday, he learned that as his first word!

Here's to you Bob! Everyone, smoke em if you got em, in honor of Bob!

    My favorite:

Yep Bob was an amazing caring human. I remember many a day my girlfriend and I would hit a local beach bar in San Diego. A major headliner band was a Bob Marley tribute band. They had it down to the look and sound. Nothing but good times with happy people. That's what his music brought out in people.

Recently, one of my staff showed me an old pic from about 1974 of Bob Marley sitting in her living room in Jamaica. Bob and my staff;s brother are sitting on a couch smiling. It was such a simple but power image. His music is positive and makes me smile

Love Bob Marley.. one of the greatest musicians to ever live for sure.

Anyone who hasn't seen the latest documentary called "Marley" should definitely check it out, a lot of info about him that many people didn't know and a lot of interviews with his close family members.

    Today is Bob Marley day

    (It's official in Toronto )

    City of Toronto Proclamation

    PROCLAMATION

    Bob Marley Day

    February 6, 2011

WHEREAS Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6, 1945, and in his 36 years created a legacy of socially observant music which continues to inspire hope and acceptance around the world.

Bob Marley's brand of reggae music, both powerful and distinct, captivated people of all cultures and continues to be instantly recognizable around the world. His profound influence on the musical and cultural landscape earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and changed the history of popular music.

Through his music, Bob Marley became an advocate for human rights and an international ambassador for peace. His courage to speak out against oppression, poverty, slavery and apartheid earned him a Peace Medal of the Third World from the United Nations and the Order of Merit from his home country of Jamaica.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim February 6, 2011 as "Bob Marley Day" and join with citizens of Toronto to salute a great musician and humanitarian.

    Mayor Rob Ford

Love this thread!! Lived on Maui in 80-81. Bob & The Wailers played at a park between Lahaina & Honokowai. A couple of nights before the concert we went upcountry above Makawao under a moon and pick shrooms off the cowpies. There had been a volcano eruption in Mexico the week before. Early evening concert with the band at full groove with the sun setting behind the ash filled sky (you could look directly at the sun) and sailboats in the channel between Maui and Molokai, well you can tell by my ramble that 36 yrs later I still can visualize the evening. 65 yrs old now and would buy a ticket to Maui right now to live that again. Love Ziggy also, but he is not Bob

    Bob

Love the tribute. My first real vacation (with my girlfriend at the time) was to Jamaica. We flew to Kingston, rented a car and drove all around the Island. We went to his house in Kingston, where he was shot, the home of Island records. We also drove outside of 9 Mile (which was near St Ann's Parish?) which was over near Ocho Rios, to see where he was born, and his mausoleum. As I type this, positive vibration is playing in the back ground. Make way for the positive day.

Oh, and the girlfriend? Yeah, 23 years together, and counting. Jah Love!!

Far from it. In every single place I've traveled, many people know and love reggae.

Do the Pandora rocksteady station. It will expose you to all the ska and rocksteady music of the 60', and early 70's that was the precursor to what we consider traditional mainstream pop reggae. All the King Jammy and Studio One, Trojan Records style stuff...Alton Ellis, Desmond Decker, The Ethiopians, The Gaylads, Delroy Wilson, Bunny Lee, The Termites.... Tons of older music that is just soooo damned good.
