The "all about bikes only thread" in the "no bike discussion" forum page
Starting to see talk & pics about "bikes" in the OC. While I personally do not have an issue with this the powers that be might, so I figured it was time to set up an "official thread page" dedicated to bike talk in the OC. Talk about anything related to bikes you want. All types, all styles, all sizes are welcome as well as all riding styles.

I think they're a good idea if the area you are in is prone to flooding....

    .... oh, wait a minute....

.... bikes? Nevermind then. Wrong forum. I thought I was in OC.

This is sorta like when the city gives the taggers an official spot to do their graphetti. Or like the porta-potty companies installing dry erase boards to cut down on the "writing on the walls".

This is the Off Topic forum.
The topics on this forum are supposed to NOT be about bikes.
So every topic on this forum NOT about bikes is on-topic.
Therefore the only topic that is actually off-topic for this thread would be about bikes.

    Ow... that hurt my head.:madman:

    Ok, then. :)

You know, bike topic really is kept to a minimum, and then it's not like it's a debate between which 29er pedals are the best, it's more like the bsing that I mentioned earlier. :)

Agreed. The term is used loosely for the most part in OC. But when I started seeing members posting that other members had already mentioned the unmentionable, I figured it might be a good idea to start this thread. Just trying to help, that's all. Personally, I believe we should be free to talk about anything here in OC, anytime we want to....politics and religion excluded.

Looks like it might be a basement. Up here, we'd do that just in case of expansion. I wonder why the 1/4 round moulding doesn't go all the way though. That looks a little odd.

well the drywall is nice bu the baseboard is kinda dull, no omph. same with the door casing. The 1/16 inch space at the bottom is to make it easier to put the laminat flooring under it so it alright.

but other then that it's is put together well.:ihih:

    sonett?

My house I had back in Michigan had a fully finished basement. I left my drywall about 1-1/4" from the floor, used 1x4 that had 4 coats of polyeurethane on all sides for baseboard, just in case I got some water. Also put ceramic tile down instead of carpet. Worked great, got water twice and it took nothing more than a couple of hours with a squeegee and some bath towels to clean it up.

That's why I've always done my own work. I hate gaps in trim work, and I like stained trim. I've thrown lots of it away and cut more just because I wasn't satisfied. I built my own solid oak raised panel wainscoting in my Michigan dining room, took forever and took lots of compound miters. Ended up doing it one piece at a time, rough fit 2 pieces and nail the first one in. Rough fit the next 2 and nail the next 1 in, and so on. Turned out really nice though.

I'm on a crappy split shift this week. I fired one of my night shift horizontal mill operators, I still need the mill to run, so I'll work noon-10:00 for a week or so and run the machine myself after the day guy goes home, until I get the position filled. I see an advantage or two, I can squeeze in some morning rides, and maybe even a nice later night ride or two. :)

Maaannn. It is my fault. I did kinda verbal diarrhea about bikes all up in the NT. In my defense, I didn't think my story was worth a new thread and there were no pictures or awesome stories so it didn't belong in Passion. Burn me at the stake as a heretic. Hey ambassador, has this thread found it's purpose? A place for OC'ers to share off topic on topic vids and pics, keeping other on topicness to a minimum, while keeping the always desireable OC bantering and wiseassery to the maximum? I like it, because deep down inside we're all "on topic", but desire a place to "play" outside the "rules".

But then again, I could be completely wrong.:)

Yup, I had high hopes this gamble was gonna work. We're all drawn to this website by a common interest. As you've stated, we can do the bike thing here and screw around in our regular OC lingo.

Thanks for all the contributions friends! Lots of great entertainment!!!

More, more, more! I need another fix :D

will you be our chauffeur ? do they "blow" the trails in the fall?

I would be happy to show you around. Unfortunately, the only thing that blows there is me.

Yes, it is. The frame is currently hanging on the wall but I am going to build it up for this Winter again. I have realized why my ride sucked so much then - Racing Ralphs, nuff said.

You wanted boring, you get boring, 3:18+ shows one of the smallish rollers and then later some chunk IIRC (i.e. 6:65+).
Edit: video was not working before but it is now.

You gotta be patient with me, it takes me a while to comprehend what I read here. ;) Pick your date and time and we'll hit the Fells trails. You are going to endure the sight of me in lycra though. ;) Btw. this weekend not looking good but the next two ones would work fine. The wet leaves give Fells a little extra oomph.

...and we're so proud of oursleves for doing 3ft. drops on full suspension bikes, full face helmets and pads. Sean Burns. *ouch* I cringe every time I watch his video segments. :skep:

looking at that trail, i'd rather it be dry! who knows, it may have to be springtime. most of my bros are from further up in NH than i, so it would be planned out. We can show you around the north too :)

Sure, I guess I'll play in this communist thread in OC.

Quick cell phone video. Had to go slow so it was at least watchable.

From last year (riding the Stumpy) but since it's fall I'll post this as well.

Nice to see you in action M___t! Gotta get you flat-landers to come out West to show you what steepness is all about. :D

What was that imaginary road trip/mtn bike trip we were talking about? Meeting in New Mexico, was it???

My trail is far from flat lol nor is it straight for more then 30 seconds. Damn trees everywhere. Yes, Northeastern part of NM.

Eff! I hit the trails today, they are all leaves and fallen branches and I broke a MRP chain guide when a stick got entangled in the chain. The guide is the most expensive part of the drive train, the tensioner just snapped off. :madmax: I hate the noise of a loose chain!:nono:

That's why i use a cheap guide and some zip ties and bushings to keep the chain tensioned. Cheap :D

Just finished watching your video StiHacka, lot's of roots over hardpack, quite different from what i ride around here. Many walkers on the trail too, again really different from around here.
Looks a good trail to ride nevertheless.

The best thing about those trails is that the loop starts about 200 meters from my house, and it is less than 15 kms from downtown Boston. There are better and more technical trails within an hour of driving but nothing beats the convenience of coming home from work, hopping on a bike and riding until sunset.

Couldn't agree more, my "usual" trail isn't the most technical and there are a couple parts where i need to dismount from the bike but the trail begins and ends about 1km from home, the next trail ( much more technical since it's also used to hold the regional downhill race/stage ) is almost 30km from home.

And considering that in at least 50% of the trail i hardly meet anyone apart from the odd ATV and motocross bike, it's more relaxing to ride than the next closest trail that is usually full of people in 7'' inch bikes that ( mostly ) ride slower than i do in a 4'' inch one, which pisses me off to no end.

So convenience + relaxing = win.
