    $100,000 with not much security.....really.

Anybody else think this sounds fishy. To me it sounds like an inside job. The trailer was parked just out of security camera view.

Here's my hunch: There will be 50 cameras on the road leading from the factory. I don't imagine this will take too long to crack and I feel sorry for the disappointment once they learn the employee's identity.

I'm just gonna park this trailer right here, out of sight from cameras and next to a chain link fence right next to a road.. I'm going with inside job or someone who planned this out.

Well, you may be able to get a used SC bike for real cheap right now if you've got the connections.

That mafia Lufthansa heist in the 70's only netted the inside guy. Never be the inside guy.

How hard would it be for them to figure out who drove last.

I occasionally have a valuable load in the back, and I almost always back up to as close to a wall as I can get so there is no way for someone to access the door or lock mechanism. They'd have to cut into the side or break into the truck, somehow start it up, and move everything forward. It's like that bank robber said when asked why he keeps robbing banks. "Because that's where they keep the money". A trailer full of carbon bikes with ENVE wheels and top of the line build kits is a mighty tempting target (for those that are so inclined).

If it really was only 11 bikes and the estimated valuation of $100K is accurate, then the bikes were their high-end, carbon, XX1-Enve builds, which are a hair over $10K each. I've been to the SC demo, and they do not usually bring out the Enve builds. Its usually the mid-level build, which is just another piece of the puzzle suggesting that this was an inside job because they would have had to know when those builds would be on the trailer.

why even have them on the trailer then? just for show? 10k far too much IMO and wouldn't pay it.

In a related note, I have a SC Bronson that I'm looking to sell. $1k, cash only.

Who leaves that much inventory on an unprotected trailer like that? That's just begging for a theft.

Some people commonly leave race cars and tools in their trailers, maybe not 100k but 50-60k anyway. They treat it like a second garage. You're more likely to get shot in the ass robbing someone like that than a bike manufacturer though.

They're doing it wrong. Next time put the goods in a Budget rental truck and fill the SC trailer with Huffy's.

They'll figure out the culprit. No insurance company is going to pay this claim until it is thoroughly investigated.

Unless these rigs are going overseas they will be found....11 bikes would be around 60k tops, maybe there was other stuff as well? Might also be what the insurance value was?

When it has all top of the line carbon parts on it, yeah that would be the retail.

They have insurance. They will be fine.

In other news, I just found a great deal on a New 5010 with Enve wheels!

Crap, guy at the LBS just strung up a crazy carbon wheelset--he looks at me and says 'sixteen hundred', I say "Dollars? That's cheap for carbon, huh?"

"No, 1600 grams, 1600 bucks isn't even cost"

Same thing happened to a KHS trailer in San Diego a few years back. Hmmm a growing trend of ??? Thieves, inside insurance fraud.

Interesting. Better cross reference the KHS and SC employee rosters and see if anything pops up. The thieves I know like to stick to what works.
