Help Me Pick Out Bars for Bike Trip - New to Cycling Bars
In August I am going on a bike trip.
Hitting Utah and New Mexico.
We will be riding for several hours.
I will be packing dried fruits and such, but would like to have some type of carb/high calorie bar to take with me on the real long rides.
Is there a bar most use? Seems there are over a dozen choices.
I would like for them to taste good, but I want to make sure there are plenty of carbs and calories.
Perhaps the nutritionists out there will disagree, but I am not convinced there is much of a difference between the different brands of energy bars, at least for us mortals. For me, good old Cliff bars (not the Builder bars) work just fine. I carry a little plastic Hammer flask filled with Hammer gel too, just in case I hit the wall. For me, the most important thing is finding the right stuff that will sit well in your stomach in the most extreme conditions.
For whatever reason (tradition maybe?), whenever I go to Moab (which is every year), I use mostly liquids instead of bars - Heed, Perpetuem, Recoverite and Gel. All Hammer products, because they all sit well in my stomach.
PS - I think the white chocolate macadamia nut Cliff bars are not only tolerable, but pretty good actually. I do not mind eating those in the slightest.
