    WNC/Asheville area rides, cyclocross suitable

    Yo Nawth Cak,

I just built up a cyclocross rig as a transition from primarily riding road to trail. Suggestions for rides to start getting dirty with a fully rigid cross rig?

I suggest you try Bent Creek. BC has the easiest trails in the Asheville area. You can get a BC map at any area LBS. If you've never ridden dirt, a cyclecross bike will be tough to handle off road. I have a hard enough time with a regular mtn bike and can't imgine riding some of the more technical Pisgah trails on a skinny tire cyclocross bike. BC is do-able but you've gotta be a super good rider or just a bit crazy or both, to ride a cyclocross bike on the rougher Pisgah trails. Have Fun!!

Dupont would be a good place as well, there are some super smooth trails over on the sky valley side of the park that would be great for a cross bike. rifle range and jim branch would be some good ones to start with. also you can throw in tons of miles on the gated roads out there, just watch for the horses on the weekends.
