What is your favorite thing about Pisgah?

I went for my first Pisgah ride in over a month yesterday and of course it was perfect but I can't decide what I like most about those woods. Is it the views? The streams? The history?

I'm going to go with the Diversity for my answer. What about you?

As soon as I saw the question, I thought the same thing you did - diversity.

Go ride Bent Creek. Then "ride" Farlow. Then Heartbreak. Then Dupont. You get the idea. Whatever you are in the mood for, you can find it (unless you enjoy crashing into canyons and cacti, that's where we fall short).

Plus there is a lot to explore - it's hard to get bored out here!

And the views/scenery don't disappoint, either. Colorado might have bigger mountains, but ours are open for biking pretty much all year long.

    The cell coverage.

Brado1, is that first photo unaltered? Never seen the colors like that.

first one photo (not mine btw), if i had to call it there was definitely some photochop or some HDR filters applied to it. That said, it's still a kickass shot

Remotability. It's a new word. It's there if you want it.

Oh let me count the ways....

After living, working, and playing in the woods out west for an extended period of time, I always felt like it was awesome. But the mountains here seemed to hold more life and some how feel more ancient, if you will. Kind of an old soul feeling, IMHO, an old soul that will kick your ass.

There you had a dry soil with a few sprigs of grass followed by a few bushes and the upper canopy (usually pine) of some sort. Here the canopy has so many layers that it is more like a spectrum. I guess the correlation to the amount of water in an ecosystem and the amount of species within that system is dead on. I feel like in a lot of other places I ride trails on a mountain, here I feel like I ride trails inside of something that is actually alive.

I love how the forest and trails are always in a constant state of change. For instance, I have been digging the slick ass oak leaves this year, more so on the climbs, and how they cover all that lurks beneath. Pedal spin pedal spin repeat. Its like twice the work out with half the distance. And the down pours this spring and summer were great riding, especially on the roots. Bring on the snow.

I also love how Pisgah gets underestimated.
He/she who works the trails does so in their own image.

    Speed just slows me down...
