That sucks. That's my favorite scenic loop for out-of-town visitors.

Record rainfall this year (120" here where I live) so a few landslides here and there might be predicted and winter and freeze expansion happens.

Hospital Rock trail in Jones Gap SP closed due to a slide last year. One of the craziest things I have ever seen. It is easy to think that the mountains just erode over a long period of time but things like landslides can bring rapid and dramatic changes.

I rode by it last week before they closed it. It's not bad if they can get around to fixing it.

    Still closed?

The Left Loop of the Tsali Trail system is currently closed due to a slide along the trail. The other 3 loops in the trail system remain open. The Forest Service will work to evaluate and repair damage to the trail and issue an alert when the trail is reopened.

Site says the above, but since these posts are from January I thought I might ask...

I'm heading down end of September and researched the closure a month ago or so and read on the park service site (I believe) that the trail is open. Also on a local Tennessee mountain bike forum someone posted "it's good to go" recently.

Rode it on 5/25/2014. Didn't have any memorable problems. Don't recall seeing the slide. I do think we skipped the overlook though.

Both Right and Left Loops open but LOTS of overgrown areas. Never seen it this bad in my 15 years of riding there.

Thompson and Mouse are in good shape. Some overgrowth but not like Left and Right loops.

I live next door and ride the trail almost daily.

Fwiw. All trails are open. Most all of the thicker sections of Left are now cut back, as of today. Alot. Looks awesome. Many freshly cut branches are still green, so its been cut the last couple of days. Looks so much better then it was just a few days ago.

Also, theres been a lot of work done recently regarding the few but common muddy spots on Right, all having drainage reliefs cut. Still a couple few spots, but easy enough to get around/thru/over.
