Transylvania Co proposes biomass plant, meeting this week in Brevard

This Thursday, 4/11 there will be a meeting in the Rogow room at the public library in downtown Brevard at 7:00. Please come to show your support, voice opposition or just learn. Big crowds are good at a time like this and the county council plus this developer need to know we all care. The bike community is large and vocal, and may be affected by this, so lets hear it!

For the record, the biomass plant is against the Ecusta trail and wants to keep the rail line open in case they want rail service in the future. This is from an article in the Hendo Lightning.
He/she who works the trails does so in their own image.

Yes, lots of articles in the local papers, mostly pro. Here's an FB page on the matter thats more con. I'm not much for Facebook but I signed up to read about it there. Its mainly from the community in Penrose that will be the most directly affected, so the comments aren't exactly positive.

So pardon the ignorance, but what's a biomass plant?

It burns trash and mainly wood chips in a "closed" loop system. I'm guessing that there would be less than 10 jobs associated with the plant. Plus five trucks drivers a day. The profits then head to New York.

Meanwhile the Ecusta Trail and (ten of ???) thousands of users each year get screwed. It seems like the greatest overall impact would be the Ecusta Trail vs the small plant.

For the record I only read one article on the plant. So the above statement is not gospel, but based more on common sense and experience.

This is a huge deal folks and can affect our air and water quality. The proposed location of this plant is on the French Broad river and centered between, and only a few miles from, Pisgah and Dupont. Please come to this meeting and show we as a community care what happens to our way of life.

7:00pm tomorrow night at the puplic library in Brevard!
