I saw an obituary in the paper for Scott. Does anyone know what happened? He was a great cycling advocate!

There will be a memorial for Scott on July 14th at the Bent Creek Community Park.

I knew him well before he moved to Asheville. He used to run a small bike shop here in Spartanburg called the Bicycle Gallery. He helped a lot of us old guys in this area get started in cycling and then in mountain biking.

    Memorial for Scott

Here are the details of Scott's memorial from Scott's friend Garrett LaBoda.

    Hello All,

This post is to relay the details of Scott Hoffmann's memorial gathering:
It will be held in the Bent Creek Community Park on Sunday, July 14th, at 12 noon. John Cress will lead with prayer, and any who would like to speak on their relationship with Scott are welcome to do so. Scott's family will have a memorabilia table with pictures and items that tell the story of Scott's life. They encourage people to bring photos, writings, or other items that exemplify how they knew and wish to remember Scott. Following the gathering a plaque will be mounted on 'Scott's Porch' to honor his years of dedication to the Bent Creek Community Park.

Preceding the gathering there will be a memorial mountain bike ride leaving from the park at 9am. Riders should feel comfortable to attend the gathering in their bike clothes, as all are welcome to dress casually.
For those who would like to contribute to writings that will be printed and bound and offered to Scott's sons please bring them to the memorial or email them to Lori Lapallo @ lorilap4@gmail.com. You may write about how you knew Scott, what he meant to you, your favorite thing about him, what you remember most about him, or any other thing that will help the boys carry Scott with them as they go though life.

For those who live in the Bent Creek community and have asked how they can help, here is what is needed: The Bent Creek area residents can help by making sure there is plenty of food for the gathering. Martha would like this to be a potluck. There may be out of town guests, so extra amounts may be needed. The drinks and paper goods will be provided. Please contact Sue Lyons @ mountainlyon95@gmail.com, or 665-3949 to offer help on the day of the memorial, or to make a contribution towards the memorial expenses.

Scott was known and loved by so many people. Those that will not be able to attend, but wish to be counted among his friends, may send a note to Lori Lapallo and she will print it and place it on the memorabilia table.

Huge turnout for Scott's memorial service today. There must have been close to 100 people. I thought I had known him a long time, but there were people who knew him much longer than me. What's amazing about Scott is that just about everyone who knew him thought of him as one of their best friends. So while most of us have a few "best friends," Scott had dozens. And these are actual friends, not the Facebook kind.

I believe that Scott's house will be going up for sale sometime soon. It is in the Bent Creek neighborhood and you can literally ride out the back yard into Bent Creek. It is not a large house, but has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a full basement, which can be converted into a bike shop as needed. Also, Scott had a huge collection of used bikes, which will be going up for sale sometime soon. These are not the latest and greatest models, but all proceeds from the sale will be going to his two boys.
