    Possibly moving to Asheville

My wife and I are possibly moving to Asheville from Richmond VA soon and I wanted to get a little information from. Are there many group rides road and mountain? We are looking for a house to rent and would like to be close to downtown. Is there one part of town that is better to live in than another?

    Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of group rides around, both road and mountain. All the neighborhoods surrounding downtown are better to live in for somebody. Depends on what you're looking for. What do you want to be close to? What kind of house are you looking for? What price range? Many things to consider.

We would both like to be able to walk to things like a local grocery, coffee shop, etc. We are looking to rent and have been trying to find a house between $1500-2500.

The five points neighborhood is gonna be your best bet. The crux is being able to walk to a grocery while living close to downtown.

Walk ???? Why not ride ur bike? Put a rack/pannier/basket er something on it. This isn't the walking forum.

mbmb gives some good advice (never though I would say that )
    What about work?
Will you be working? If so, where and do you want to bike commute?
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

I work for Ride2Recovery so I work everywhere East of the Mississippi. So no bike commuting for me. My wife was offered a job at the Hospital in Sylva. I have no problem biking to coffee or stores, my point was that I just wanted to be close to things.

You could also look at Montford and central Asheville, which is the neighborhood nestled between merrimon ave. and Charlotte street.

I highly recommend the core North Asheville neighborhoods. As a lifetime cyclist, 13 years as a Real Estate Broker and a resident of the downtown / N. Asheville, feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. Just sent you a PM with my contact info. Enjoy your visit.

Also, I designed a home search tool for buyers looking for properties in areas that offer safe cycling routes and / or walking distance to most conveniences and downtown.
