    FOREST SERVICE NEWS ALERT

    May 16, 2012


    Heavy Bike Traffic in Parts of Pisgah Ranger District on Saturday

    PISGAH FOREST, N.C. --Motorists should be aware of the Pisgah 111K Mountain Bike Race and associated heavy bicycle traffic scheduled for Saturday May 19th in the Pisgah Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest.

    Affected roads include FSR (Forest Service Road) 1206 (Yellow Gap Road), FSR 5000 (Wash Creek Road), and FSR 476 (South Mills River Road). Motorists should expect heavy bicycle traffic between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

    The racers are aware that the roads are not closed to traffic and have been asked to keep right and ride single file. However, please use caution while driving a motor vehicle in these areas. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the race director at 828-242-8250.

    That was a special test at PMBAR. We failed it, on account of not having towels. A shame to carry handguns for 65 miles but forget to bring a towel.

    One of the bike cops from Spartanburg was with us on a 100 mile road rode last Saturday. He was telling me that those bikes are 45 pounds and all the crap they have to carry on their belt is another 30. This guy was a good rider.
