PAS Brevard area trail crew – Laurel Mountain Trail workday

PAS worked on Laurel Mountain Trail last Sunday, thanks to Carlos, Chuck, Van, Tony, Clay, and Rodney. We got all the trees cleared from the parkway to Yellow Gap road, we also got some dirtwork done and trimmed back vegetation from the connector trail about halfway down to Yellow Gap. We plan to get back out there to de-bramble the bottom half of the trail soon...

    Thanks,
    ---Valerie.

    Thanks for your hard work!

My right arm still looks like it was attacked by a band of zombie squirrels from riding up laurel last week..

Amen and a big thanks to all. I will try to catch the next round.
He/she who works the trails does so in their own image.

    Speed just slows me down...

Good work up there. Rode that loop Sunday afternoon. The fresh trail work was obvious and very helpful.

Any plans to tackle some of the downed trees on Pilot Cove-Slate Rock? Several of them were at waist level. I'm sure someone is going to tell me to just "ride over them" but those were on a whole other kind of level.

cgreen- those trails are the assigned responsibility of another group. Call the ranger station and report concerns on any trails other than all of Bent Creek, Squirrel, Laurel, Farlow, and Vineyard. All other trails are assigned to other volunteer groups. Concerns regarding the aforementioned trails can be reported via the PAS webiste.

I'm the one responsible for tearing up the trail on the climb out of Sassafrass Gap. I think I tore it up pretty well and anyone who doesn't like it is welcome to complain directly to me

Here is solacthered looking up at the 'trail' before I started my destruction. Notice the waterbar to his left, as recently as two years ago this entire stretch of trail was on the waterbars but over the last two years of neglect riders had moved the line completely off the waterbars and trail corridor. Another two years and what looks like a buff trail now would be an eroded mess.

Here is CHIEF riding through as I was trying to work. I told him he needed to wait a few hours for me to finish but he yelled "on your left" and just blazed right past . I guess he hates the trails like everyone else who wasn't out there helping!*

    Photobucket

    Looking up after I finished:

I managed to get most of the waterbars dug out and the line back onto the trail. It is going to be soft for awhile so get out there and ride it but please do not ride around the waterbars, they are there for a reason. Oh, wait I forgot, waterbars are bad! I guess I should get back out there and reroute it!

First: Thanks for the trail work. I also thanked everyone who was out working individually, giving up their Sunday and time. "You are appreciated" -The late Tupac Shakur.

Second: I appreciate seeing my riding partner in the picture already dismounted behind me. I'll be pleased to forward the link to him. He might not be as pleased.

He was just being courteous. I'm lucky I jumped out of the way before you ran me over

Did you happen to notice if the blueberries were ripe yet on Pilot/Slate?

I snacked on blueberries on Laurel during our workday on Sunday.
    They're not in 100%, but they're starting.

Just wanted to say thanks again. The trail rode amazing yesterday. Logs gone, steps made, trail cleared back to trail again, water bars found and rode over and not around. It was awesome!

My wife rode it today. She came home all smiles and wasn't scratched up like she'd been attacked by a feral cat. Thank you, I like a happy wife!
