Watch out! A new land management plan was used in VA and WVA by the wilderness colition to add wilderness (close trails to bikes). WNC has a strong MTB community and should try to add mountain biking trails not just defend the status quo. The Wilderness Coalition tries to get trails closed two ways: 1) You're not riding the trail enough to justify keeping it open; or 2) you're riding it too much. They will also entice so-called mountain bikers who own businesses to advocate for wilderness; that way the coalition can say "the mountain bikers are for wilderness expansion."

There have already been some meetings between the mtn bike advocacy folks (including PAS and SORBA Tom) and Wilderness folks. Wilderness folks are already identifying they need to work with us and alternative desinations are being discused. They know we are many in numbers and orginized, and without our support they will not win.

    I hope you're right. But I wouldn't trust them.

Thank you for all you do Woody. The new management plan could be a great thing for Pisgah and mountain bikers.
