MD En Route to FL: Where to go?

Heading on a road trip in a few weeks down to Florida from Maryland and was hoping for some trail recommendations. I'll be in a big van conversion so I'm trying to limit diversions, hoping for something at most maybe 50 miles or so from 95.

I've been to western NC (Brevard/Warrior Creek) and LOVED it but think its just too far off course. Technical terrain preferred, climbs fine, rocks fine (although straightup gardens aren't a whole lotta fun), couple feet drops fine, etc.

    I greatly appreciate any input!!!

Rather than straight down 95 hop on 64. Go to Sherando Lake near Charlottesville. Then 81 South. Hit Carven's Cove or Dragon's Back near Roanoke. 81 South then 26 South (east?) to Asheville. Bent Creek or Brevard/Pisgah. Continue on 26 back to 95.
A little out of the way but worth every mile.

If you heading to Asheville only adds about 200 miles to the trip.

Going to FATS adds about 100 miles to the trip.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

I'm familiar with the great riding in western NC and what kind of distance it would add to the trip.

Was hoping for input on trails closer to 95, more en route. There's gotta be some decent trails to recommend in central NC...

I think this was the video I was remembering. Rockier and hillier than what you might think for that part of the country.

You are farther east than central going on 95. If you got onto 85 for a bit you would be more lined up for trails. As it is, you don't have a lot of choices east of Raleigh. You best options would be to either take a side trip off of 95 for Raleigh for a trail or two then connect back to 95 and maybe hit Sanford for the San Lee trails on your way through.

Angler's Ridge in Danville, VA is a sweet set of trails. Of course Greensboro, NC is only 45 minutes south of Danville and has a great trifecta just outside of downtown with Owl's Roost, Wild Turkey and Country Park. FATS is not to be missed and you cannot go wrong with an all-day excursion to Santos trails near Ocala.

Maybe hop on 85 and hit the USNWC in south of Charlotte? Really cool facility with some great trails...
