Hello Charlotte! Drop some info on me.

Seems that I am leaving Sweden and moving to Charlotte this July. So, I want to say hi, introduce myself, and ask for some info.

I ride bikes, I don't care what it is....road, BMX, DH....I'll ride it.

I guess I am looking to live in Meck County (Mallard Creek/Prosperity), so I can be close to work. I hate car commutes, otherwise I would probably choose Fort Mill(ish). I will try to commute by bike.

I'm looking for info. Links. Clubs. Race Series. Realtors. Good shops. Kid/wife friendly trails. Whatever you can drop on me so I can gain some local knowledge. Feed me please!

Welcome to the Charlotte! Charlotte has plenty of mountain bike trails in the area and Pisgah National forest is only a 1.5 to 2 hour drive which has some of the best bike trails on the east coast.

Check out Tarheel Trailblazers for a listing of all the trails in the Charlotte area.

For racing we have a local promoter that does weekly mountain races during the summer and road events as well.

for more extreme events check out Pisgah Productions

Charlotte is not very bike friendly in terms of commuting. Which area of town are you working in?

Exactly the kind of info I am looking for, thanks guys.

I'm really looking forward to riding Pisgah and DuPont. I've ridden Uwharrie a couple times in the past (I remember a trail called "superfit", but that's a Bad Brains song). Also planning to climb Mt Mitchell on my roadie this fall.

My work will be at the intersection of 77 & 85. And, yeah, I am seeing a lack of bike lanes/sidewalks in that part of town when I do Google Map tours. Statesville road near 85 looks pretty gnarly for bike traffic.

Thanks again, keep the info coming!

I live and work in the same area and would advise against riding to work. There is a good amount of traffic, people don't pay attention, and I've actually seen cars run into motorcycles on WT Harris twice already in 2013. Plus, as you said, there aren't many continuous bike lanes.

Based upon your first post, I thought we might work for the same company but after the second I don't think so.

If we do, we are opening a "tech center" for an engineering group that is relocating.
