"If you live out of town and were planning on visiting FATS in the next few weeks, you should reschedule your trip. Not only is FATS wet from the recent ice storm, but the downed trees and branches have made a majority of the loops impassable. This is true for most of the other trails in the CSRA as well.
"Most residents in the CSRA, and our local volunteers, have had their power restored, but they will be taking care of damage to their homes and yards first.
We are in the process of organizing volunteer work parties, hopefully for next weekend, but it will take time and a lot of volunteer effort to get the trails back to normal. Remember that only USFS certified sawyers are permitted to do chainsaw work on USFS land (FATS, Modoc, Turkey, Wine, Horn, LCHT).
Lastly, please be aware that FATS is not the only trail we maintain and we have obligations and responsibilities to other land managers in the CSRA as well.
Thank you for your patience and understanding."
I live close by and the streets in parts of the are were just cleared yesterday. Saw a friends pics of FATS, lots of trees/branches down. Looks like a lot of hard work in the next few weeks clearing. If you ride here on a regular basis please keep an eye out for work parties.
