Best Month to Ride in Asheville????

    Hi,
I am planning a trip to Asheville to mountain bike at Dupont, but am not sure what month to go. We are looking at going this spring / early summer.

I want to go before it gets too hot / buggy but don't want to get rained out either. Not sure if there is a lot of rain in April or May.

    What month do you recommend?

    thanks

    Matt

yeah....I imagine that would be the best time, but our timeline is for the spring. Maybe we can head back down in the fall too.

According to this chart it seems that May has slightly more rain in the April, however the warmer weather allows it to dry quicker. But - the good great news is about Dupont is that it dries amazingly fast and drains really well, especially compared to the other local Pisgah Trails.

As far as heat, I have never had any issues with it being too hot to ride. The trees etc are so thick you are rarely in the sun (I don't even wear tinted lenses) thus it always feels cooler then it is. And the bugs never bother me if I don't stop YMMV.

If are planning on riding other trails in the area, the rain is more of an issue.

    October.

    or early June.

    So, maybe May.

As long as you are coming to the area to ride you should check out more than just Dupont.

FYI, DuPont is not in Asheville and is good for a day, 2 at best, of riding. As was already mentioned, it would be a shame to come to the area only for DuPont. There is so much more. Think Pisgah.

I will agree, I think Dupont is great and a must do but don't ignore Pisgah if you have time to do both.

As far as temps go, they are never really that bad here (of course that could be a matter of opinion).
High elevations and plenty of tree cover helps to keep you cool.
Even early June won't be that bad.

If you come before April 15th, the seasonal trails in Pisgah will still be open.

Before April 15th? Are there trails there that close in the spring?

I enjoy October. Keep in mind during the spring the pollen is heavy and can cause breathing difficulties for some.
