They are well aware of it, just don't have the money to fix it at this time.

Really they don't have the money to take a back hoe that I'm pretty sure they have in inventory, a couple of guys that are already on the pay roll dig about 4 feet down, lay a 32" 20 foot pipe that would cost about $800? I would venture to say it should cost less that $5000 Or I guess they can just wait until the whole road washes out then they cost goes through the roof.

Not a knock on the Southern Research Station employees, most everyone that works there are good people. It is a wonder though anything ever gets done with all the bureaucracy, technical bulletins that must be followed, etc. I don't know if all branches of the government are the same but its enough to make one shake their head.

Anyways rant off, and doubt that it is anything they would allow volunteers to do since it requires heavy machinery and probably the involvement of an engineer. So I would anticipate it being closed by spring if nothing is done to remedy the situation.

I am with Matt on this one.

If you don't want to fix road itself, fine.
At least fix the damn drain before the rest of the road washes out.
I am sure it is a major contributor to the problem (it certainly isn't helping).

If it is left to wait it is just going to get worse and possibly lose the entire road.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

If that road was going to be used for logging anytime soon the supervisor's office would suddenly find the money and inclination to fix it
