    Bears,Bears & More Bears

Riding Squirrel gap at Turkey Pen yesturday and saw a bear for the first time in Pisgah. I ran into them frequently in the Smokies when I worked for the Park Service, but in my four years riding here It was a first! It would have been awesome experience, had my trusty canine companion not took off chasing it. Luckily my biking bud returned safely back to the trail so we headed on down cantrell creek only to find another one sitting right near the trail as we were about to cross a creek. I put my dog on his leash before he noticed it and we turned around and went back the way we came in. Anyone else seen any bears on their bike rides in Pisgah?

I've seen a sow (sp?) mother and cub that have been over off Squirrel before you come up to Laurel Gap (little camp site) mile or two before Horse Cove. It was last hunting season, haven't seen one since. We rode from the Gauging Station up SMR to Buckhorn to Black Mtn to Turkey Pen to SMR to Mullinax to Squirrel to SMR back to Gauging Station Saturday all along the bear sancuary and didn't see a one. Also some of the last 2 hours or so were night riding with the HID's on and we didn't spot any big eyes, and that's probably a good thing.

    They're everywhere!
I have not seen any this year (so far) but in years past
2 babies in a tree on Pilot Rock
2 HUGE adults on the bottom of Club Gap trail
1 baby in a tree on Buckhorn Gap trail
and 1 adult in Bent Creek on N. Boundary Road.
You can please some people sometimes but you can't please all the people all the time.

Last Thursday night I was out on Bear Branch and my HID lit up 2 big ones and one little one. It was a little creepy....
