There are lots of trails in and around Charlotte.

Check out www.tarheeltrailblazers.com for all the information you need.

Closest to you are Francis Beatty Park (Matthews), Sherman Branch (roughly Mint Hill), Anne Springs (Ft Mill).

There are also Renaissance (Charlotte), Catawba (aka the US National Whitewater Center -- West Charlotte), Poplar Tent (Concord), North Meck (Huntersville), Fisher Farm (Davidson), Lake Norman State Park (Troutman).

An hour east of you is Uwharrie.

Check the trail reviews on the Trailblazer site. There is also a trail map that will show you the locations of each trail.

Yes there are quite a few. Check out the local club. Good trail info on the site.

When I lived in Matthews 20 years ago, we used to ride at Cane Creek Park. I don't know if that place is still good for riding, but I got my first major MTB injury there, when I tried to catch big air off the dam and broke my collarbone.
Friends don let friends ride road bikes.
