    XT 10 speed

    I just a note:

I have fitted the new 10 speed XT gear set to a couple of bikes & it is nice.

IMHO mush better than the 9 speed,

Why mo' better? Does it give you a lower low gear? I'm building up my first 29'er, an MCR, and I'm prolly gonna go with a 3x10 to maintain the low end I'm accustomed to on a 26'er.

Ok the XT 10 speed cranks are 24/32/42 so

if you have the 11-36 & the new 24/32/42 cranks your over all lowest gear will be no lower but you could put the 22 on the front if you wanted / needed to however with the 24 front gear it gives you a more useable granny gear range.

Now with the 36 1st gear & 32 front you can climb bigger hills without dropping into the granny ring

Then with the 42 big ring you have a gear that you will be able to push more often than the old 44.

The other big thing is that the shifting has more of a click in the trigger giving you a better idea of the fact it has changed gear wear as the old 9 speed was a bit soft & just felt more unsure.

    Hope this helps.
