    Anyone use the Bionicon V.02 chainguide on their RIP?

    I really don't wanna replace a perfectly good X.0 derailleur with a new X.0 Type 2 derailleur. Looking for a cheaper alternative.

    I just tried one on my '10 RIP to deal with the frequent chain drop/suck issue I've been dealig with. So far I've ripped it off twice... not impressed. Keep in mind, though, that I live in AZ an the Sonoran Desert eats bike parts.

    Just finished the buildup, rode Fort Yargo (GA) on Saturday and Tsali (NC) on Sunday. The bike is exactly what I wanted and the first thing I noticed was that my lower back did not hurt halfway through the ride. Been a while since I was on a bike that truly fit my extra large frame. My only issue is that I seem to be washing out the front end on tight dusty turns. This is my first 29'r and I. Like. It.

    Nice build! I will be curious to see if you have any issues with chain drop/suck. I have a '10 RIP with a bashguard on front, and if I drop to the granny under any sort of load or when the suspension is working the chain gets sucked between the seatstay and the crankset. Got a Bionicon C.guide, gave up on it after I ripped it off twice. Please post up if your setup works well.

    Can't say that I had any problems at all with the drive train during the rides but then again I'm running a completely new drive train. Most of the time it's not the bike when dealing with chain suck but the meshing of the teeth and rollers.

    I'm putting together my RIP 9 right now but have a question about installing the crankset.

    How many spacers do you use when installing the crankset? I'm installing the shimano slx M665

    I will post some pics up when its finally done. I'm still trying to figure out all the shifting... Its my first time. I also have to get the fork faced at a shop and cut the extra tube off. Once that's done I'll upload my pics.

    Having just built my first bike, I would say it's a good idea to get the steer tube cut at a shop, but you'll realize while they're doing it that you could have done it no problem. The real issue is measuring 5x before you mark where you want it cut. Have fun!

    Just bought a new RIP 9 and Rock Shox RCT3 fork combo from Jensonusa during there 12 days of Christmas deal of the day.
    What headset do you guys recommend? The Cane Creek 40 series is going to run $62 thru Amazon is it decent or should I spring from a King Inset? It sucks that they no longer come with a headset as its a pain to get one and then have a shop install it. I can build everything else but don't have a facing tool or headset press.

    Why not just get a CC 40 series from Jenson to save on shipping?
    King's are good but for the $$ so are CC 40 series headsets.
    Also just have a lbs install the headset for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it youself.
    As far as the Rip needing any chasing or facing, it does not. Should be good to go out of the box!
