    Niner Carbon Fork stem torque

So I recently put a set of Crank Bros bars onto my Niner Fork. Whenever I'm pulling hard on the bars, going up a climb or just accelerating hard, I hear a creaking type noise coming from what sounds like the fork. The stem is clamped to the steerer with 8 Nm. Spec is 9 Nm, but I'm worried about going tighter, because, well, carbon. Am i safe tightening that a little more? Could the sound be from the bar/stem interface instead? Any thoughts at all?

Tightening to spec should be no problem. In addition get some Fiber Grip and put some on the stem/steerer interface. Finish Line Fiber Grip Carbon Fiber Bicycle Assembly Gel, 1.75-Ounce Tube: Sports & Outdoors
