Air 9 to commute to work + ride trails on the way home
I'm building an Air 9 to commute to work so it'll be a budget build (hopefully, it'll probably end up over budget). I want to get a fork that has full lock out capabilities and is good on the trail but doesn't break the bank. I have tried the SID Solo Air and even locked I could still compress it. $500-600 range. What do y'all recommend? The fork will be the part I'll spend the most $ on so I'd like for it to be something I can move to another frame if I grow into using a 29er as my primary bike. Currently all my bikes are 26"s..
You could go rigid like mine with Vulpine 2.1 semi slicks and Niner Carbon fork.

If you need squish and lockout I have had a few Reba forks and never had a major issue with them. You need to adjust the floodgate setting to get the lockout to work fully on some models. I have a Reba XX on my Jet9 with hydraulic lockout and it works fine. I wouldn't be too worried about a small amount of fork compression when locked out for commuting. If you have good pedalling technique it shouldn't sap any noticable energy at all.
