    2012 Air 9 with 120mm Fork?

I recently bought a new 2012 Air 9 frame. In order to afford the build I'm going to have to use many components I already have. This includes a Reba with 120mm of travel. Niner recommends 80-100mm. This wont be my primary bike. I have a full susp 29er and a full susp 26er. I wanted a hardtail just to mix it up a bit. Will the bigger fork make this bike horrible to ride and terrible on the climbs. I also noticed on niner's site that using a bigger fork voids the frame warranty. Do I really risk damage to the frame? I have experience replacing every mountain bike component and I have upgraded several bikes over the years, but this is my first full frame-up build. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

It's likely that your Reba can be reduced to 100mm with spacers.

Thanks llama. I hadn't considered that option. I have the 2010 Reba SL. I did a quick search and couldn't find any specifics on shortening the travel of that particular fork. I agree that it's likely that it can be done. I'll follow up with my LBS. Thanks again!

Travel can typically be reduced to a point on a reba. You will just need the 20mm spacer and follow this procedure. Workshop: How To Adjust Travel On A RockShox Trail Fork - BikeRadar

It's going to be at least a month before I can get the rest of the parts I need for this build. I've decided to ride the bike with the 120 fork to see how it rides before I spend the money to adapt the fork I have. ( I would have to pay someone to do it. Tearing a fork apart is not something I feel comfortable doing) I know this isn't recommended, but lets face it, I can look all over this website and see posts of bikes from any manufacturer with larger than recommended forks. I would like some comments from someone who is running a 120 on a niner air 9. I know you are out there.
