2011 Niner RIP 9 close to done - component group question...

I am building a 2011 Niner RIP 9 and have everything lined up but components.

I had a deal where I could get 2010 SRAM XX for the price of the new 2011 SRAM X0, but was told that I probably would want to avoid XX on a bike like the RIP for what it was intended.

I will be trail riding - no XC racing or anything really All Mountain, either. Some smaller hucks and lots of roots and rocks. Nothing serious, though...

Anyways, I decided to drop the XX idea and focused on the 2011 X0 or X9 2x10 groupings.

The issue I have is that the X0 stuff is about $400-$600 more than the X9 if you compare them.

I know the carbon arms of the X0 are lighter vs the aluminum ones on the X9. That aside, I look at the rear derailleurs and am hard pressed to see a big enough difference. I also think the front derailleurs are almost exactly the same. The triggers look to be a bit better on the X0, but again...

I am putting some really good things on this bike and do not want to dull it down with lower end components. Of course, if X9 is as good as X0 and I can save $400 or so, I think I am willing to do that.

Here's my build so far to see where I am going with the bike:

    -2011 Niner RIP 9 frame
-2011 Industry 9 Enduro wheelset with Flow rims.
    -2011 Thomson Elite seat post
    -2011 Thomson X4 stem
    -2011 Niner Carbon bar
-2011 Fox F29 Talas FIT RLC fork
    -2011 Ergon GA-1 grips

What I was going to add based on X9 or X0...

    -Complete 2011 SRAM X9 2x10 in Gray/Black

    OR

    -Complete 2011 SRAM X0 2x10 in Gray/Black

Now, I was also willing to do 2010 brand new left over X0 3x9 stuff as it is what I have been using for years and not sure the absolute benefit of 2x10, but everyone keeps telling me to go 2x10...

    thoughts?

I'm building up a 2010 RIP 9, and went with the 3X10 X9. I've read a couple of articles that state they perform exactly the same, but have a slight weight penalty for the X9 stuff.

I went the 3X route so I could have a big ring for certain races, but replace it with a bash for trail-riding. I also want that 22T small ring when I need it.

Generally X9 is as about as good as last years X0 due to the trickle down effect. I wouldn't lose sleep over using an X9 groupset.

My wifes X9 works as nice as The XX on my Rip9 & Jet9.

I run the shimano XT 11-36 cassettes on our bikes & it works as good as the XX cassette that I have on my good wheels & IMO the XT cassette is much nicer than all but the XX cassette.

If your going to be bashing rocks I think the X9 alloy cranks will hold up better

My wife & I love the 2 x 10 & will not go back to 3 rings up front any time soon.

I have had just about everything sram & shimano on my Rip9 & think the 26/39 cranks suit the bike the best of all

All you have to do is work out if they will suit you.

    +1 on the X9

I have all X9 on my 2010 RIP. Except front derailer. X9 in my opinion is the best bang for the buck. For the price of a X9 group you could put the money you save on a nice wheel set..

X9 is slightly heavier, slightly stronger, and much cheaper than X0. If you are a weight weenie, the X0 is the way to go. If you don't mind an extra ounce or two and want to save a few hundred dollars, X9 will be just fine.

I ride a 2010 large Tang RIP 9 with X9 and am very happy with it. Keep in mind you'll need an XT front derailleure (I've seen 3 different spellings of Derailleur in this thread. ) due to the frame of the RIP.

SRAM X9, X0, and XX all have the correct front derailleur for the RIP...

Are you 3x9 or 2x10? I was thinking of sticking with the 3x9 setup. I have 2010 Noir Crankset and complete X0 (2010) group front to rear. Is 3x9 really an issue nowadays? Or rather, is 2x10 so "the shiznit" that I should go up to 2x10?
