rohloff chain guide or other guide options???

i have just bought a helius cc rohloff 2007. the previous owner had the suspension and shock set up really hard, but i have set it up nice and plush for some all-mountain use.

on my first ride the chain was thrown off the raceface evolve 38t crank, every time the shock compressed to near full travel wen i jumped, or rode over an obstacle.

from reading the rohloff manual it says a rohloff chain guide is required with a full sus, but these are 50. is this the best option? or should i consider other chain guides e.g. e-thirteen guides?

p.s. despite the chain falling off, this bike rocks! will have to post some pics soon. cheers, ian

I've always used the Rohloff guide on my bikes. Works without fuss and has been on >1 frame now - there's nothing to wear out.

The same Q came up on STW a year back -

and the alternatives don't seem massively cheaper. No idea how someone managed to ride without it - my experience was the same as yours.
