    Nicolai's in action !!!

I've been looking for a thread like that, but didn't see one.

Why not create a post about just pictures, no comment, just plain picture of action (with Nicolai of course )
could be nice and refreshing in those times where snow takes over and the bike(s) gets dust in the garage....

    Here I start.
France, Chambéry, the local fr spot la Combe Noire, the Rider is Nicolas and he's ridding on a 2006 Helius ST

This is Thierry, still the same spot a different jump. he's a beginer and he's ridding on an Helius ST from 2007

Sam - First 3 pictures are in San Diego, the wooden structure photo is in Whistler and the last shot is in New Zealand.....

We do have some good North Shore stuff here in NZ though, perhaps not quite as good.

Keep the pics coming, love to see any riding shots.....

Hehe, yeah, though the rest isn't so bad here. But will certainly come over for some riding, especially if there's a proper Nicolai meet again. Be prepared on me crashing a lot again as well then, skills are getting somewhat rusty .

Had to wear the new 25 year anniversary Troy Lee shorts, would be rude not to...

The jump for sure is not that high at all, length wise it is longish, but was having fun over jumping it as dumb as that sounds. It is a newish line that has been built. Jumps made easier so as more people will hit it up, from the view point of a flat are before the tranny etc... Still a fun little jump line.....

A good riding buddy KillerB in the picture with his Spesh is going to move up to a Nicolai, great to see....

    Keep the action shots coming....

Scotland on a awesome weekend... it does happen if you wait around long enough

What goes down must go up.

One of Scotlands most remote river crossings - brave or stupid?.

The highest bikes in the country? Only one mountain is higher...

Epic descent part1, note the frozen Loch!

    Epic descent part2.

Another quality weekend in the Scottish hills. On Saturday we climbed 1118m to the summit of the munro Sgor Gaoith (which was tough but rideable until the last 2m) then cut across to Carn Ban Mor at 1052m. We were extremely lucky with the weather and I was disappointed to realise I'd left my camera behind and had to rely on a crappy phone one. The descent off the top was epic with approx 8km of very rocky singletrack. Considering the weather we only encountered 3 walkers who were amazed to see us and recorded some good video footage of us bouncing down the hill.
Sunday was spent at Laggan Wolftrax riding one of the (IMHO) best UK trail centre black sections. 3 times round that and 3 times round the red. The red isn't nearly so technical but it's fast and swoopy and requires stamina to keep the speed up through all 6km of it.
All in all it was cracking weekend.

A bit sad but i took a couple today on the "self timer" , got pissed off after a while of missing any decent shots.

This was the first ride in the NEW DIRT , we have had no rain for about 6 months and last week it seroiusly belted down for 5 days , it was dry today but the clouds behind me looked threatening . We really needed the rain and its really nice to have some soft ground to dig the tyres into

TLR , still the same , i dropped it from 167mm to 150mm and it was the same , so im back to 167mm and am trying to change my riding accordingly . Instead of plowing up a technical section im having to pick the line more so the pedal doesn't clip a rock , same with the flowy singletrack , i just watch whats coming and make sure im not on the down stroke . The last few times i have went out i cant recollect any major strikes, but the issue is definately still there 100%.

Why not just run 165mm cranks? I have zero problems on my Spesh Enduro now even though the BB is only around 13.25" on 5.5" of travel.

Hey geetee , i have a Spech Enduro too with 175mm cranks and zero problems with strike . The pedal strike is just a trait/flaw of the bike (nic AM).... changing cranks from 175mm to 170mm can be a big deal , nevermind going 10mm shorter to 165mm, that could seriously mess a man up

TLR , also another thing that has possibly helped me with the problem..... PROPEDAL on the fox RP23 , i have it on the highest setting for climbing , then knock it to normal for plush decents . It has saved the back end being so spongey , which in turn eliminated some of the serious "potential spindle bending" strikes. I know you have a flash new CCDB , but i dont know if there is a climbing aid/lock out on them .

Ozzy - I retrofitted a much shorter stroke/eye to eye shock to reduce the travel, which also dropped the BB from the standard height. Having said that, I did get the shock from Specialized as it was a version of the DHX they used on the 2006 Enduro Elite, which has less travel than the other models.

I did wonder about what effect reducing the crank length would have, but in all honesty apart from being able to pedal more, I can't feel the difference. Or maybe I can, I'm just not recognising it.

I test rode an AM and had no problems with pedal strike. In fact I felt the BB was too high although that was more likely just because i was coming to it from my Spesh.

Geetee , i rode a bike with 170mm cranks and it felt different .... probably just because it was a different bike but i read quite a few forums on changing crank length and the "gurus" seem to think it makes a difference changing by 5mm ?!?

Im not a dialled in rider , so i would probably not feel anything if it was on my bike either.

It really is just an AM thing , call it a flaw or whatever . Im slowly getting used to it .... and my BLOODY RAPID RISE DERAILLEUR .... which is causing a bigger pain but its also getting there

i can't tell you where this trail is.
i can tell you it's gnarly, super steep and has natural flow to die for.
additionally, never have i ridden a trail where 167mm of travel just didn't seem enough

dipper's FR on the 180mm 66 ATA's was sublime. my AM was starting to suffer and the TALAS were starting to overheat and spike, the trail is that demanding.

    happy days
